Complex Challenges Require Networked Solutions.

The mobility of the future depends on integrated solutions. Today, however, responsibilities for tasks regarding traffic and mobility lie within the responsibility of various departments in local administrations.

An important first step is to acknowledge the neces-sity of collaboration to ensure mobility, and to make unified processes possible via necessary adjustments to existing work and cooperation arrangements in local administrations.

Key to communal mobility management is a mobility concept. Like a master plan for mobility, this concept combines concrete solutions from the fields of infra-structure, construction and planning law, as well as consultancy, information and public relations, to create a single, unified strategy.

As the central, managerial point of contact, a mobility manager coordinates processes, gives impulses and ensures communication between the various special ist sectors and departments.

The ”Zukunftsnetz Mobilität“ Sets Something New in Motion.

North-Rhine Westphalia’s mobility network, “Zukunftsnetz Mobilität NRW”, serves as a platform to support the exchange of knowledge, the networking of projects, and the promotion of communal mobility manage ment in the region’s communes.

Four regional coordination offices provide con-sult ing and other services free of charge. These offices ensure that structural requirements are fulfilled by the individual communes, organise regional knowledge exchange and pave the way for collaborative measures with local partners.

Municipalities and districts must fulfil three re quirements in order to become members:

Sustainable Mobility Makes Communes Worth Living in.

The traffic and urban planning which has been orientated towards car use throughout the last few decades, has now reached its limits. New solutions are required. The mobility of tomorrow is networked, smart and moves beyond the use of fossil fuels. Future mobility solutions will promote economic development and improve the quality of life.

Communal mobility management can open the way for trade and make areas significantly more attractive as it builds a network between existing possibilities and improves efficiency.

Innovative mobility solutions help prevent the depopulation of rural and peripheral areas. In urban centres, they help decrease traffic congestion and improve the quality of life in public spaces.

Sustainable mobility also means safe mobility - particularly for the most vulnerable traffic participants

1. Presentation of the concept of communal mobility management to the top administration level

2. Appointment of a person in charge of mobility management (mobility manager)

3. Signing of the framework agreement for the development of sustainable mobility and mobility management
