Public civil registration offices – the registration of births,

marriages and deaths depended no longer on religious

denomination

Main registers and their contemporary copies, the latter archived

in the Hessian Archives for civil registers (Personenstandsarchiv)

since 2009

Accessible after these time periods have passed:

Birth registers: 110 years Marriage registers: 80 years Death registers: 30 years

- 130.000 duplicate copies of the registers (Standesamtsnebenregister) in ca. 1.500 shelf meters

- from each civil registry office in Hesse (current, not historical

borders)

- main registers (Hauptregister) and additional files
