Wirsbo MultiCor TubingWirsbo MultiCor Tubing is multi-layered composite tubing consisting of an aluminum tubing sandwiched between inner and outer layers of PEX. Layers are bonded to the aluminum by a special adhesive. MultiCor offers 100% oxygen diffusion, protects against corrosion and can be embedded in concrete and can be installed in walls, floors or ceilings. The flexibility of MultiCor tubing results in easy rollouts. The stay-in-place rigid feature of the tubing is ideal for hydronic baseboard and radiator connections. Wirsbo MultiCor tubing utilizes the MultiCor Fitting assemblies to connect to Wirsbo’s complete line of heating manifolds and compression fittings. Corrodible or ferrous components may be used in a closed loop hot water system with Wirsbo MultiCor tubing. Wirsbo MultiCor tubing is rated at 125 psi @ 180 ºF and at 100 psi @ 200 ºF . These temperature and pressure ratings are issued by the Hydrostatic Design Stress Board of the Plastic Pipe Institute (PPI). PPI is a division of the Society of Plastics Industry (SPI).

Working with Wirsbo MultiCor TubingMultiCor tubing is ideal for radiant slab installations. The coils can be rolled out directly from the box, or a Wirsbo Uncoilercan be used to facilitate easy unrolling.

Cutting MultiCorWirsbo MultiCor tubing should be square cut perpendicular to the length of the tube with a suitable cutting tool. Be sure to remove excess material or burrs that might affect the fitting connection.

BendingMultiCor tubing can be bent by hand or with a bending spring. Bend supports are not necessary since MultiCor maintains its shape. The following chart outlines the minimum bending radius of the MultiCor tubing.

Storing and HandlingStore Wirsbo MultiCor in its carton under cover to avoid dirt accumulation and extended exposure to direct sunlight. Never install tubing that has been exposed for more than 30 days.

Working with Pex-Al-Pex

Other handling precautions• DO NOT use Wirsbo tubing where temperatures and pressures exceed product ratings.• DO NOT apply an open flame to Wirsbo tubing.• DO NOT solder within 18" of Wirsbo tubing in the same water line.• DO NOT install Wirsbo tubing where it will come in direct contact with high concentrations of low molecular weight petroleum products, such as fuels or solvents.• DO NOT install Wirsbo tubing in direct contact with sharp fill.• DO NOT weld or glue Wirsbo tubing.• DO NOT install Wirsbo tubing within 6" of any gas appliance vents or within 12" of any uninsulated recessed light fixtures.• DO NOT use Wirsbo tubing to convey natural gas.• DO NOT use Wirsbo tubing for an electrical ground.• DO NOT run heavy machinery over MultiCor tubing as it may crush the tubing wall.

Pipe Supports 1. Plastic tubing supports are recommended. Metal tubing supports designed for use with plastic tubing may be used. 2. Do not use supports that will damage the tubing. Inspect metal supports for sharp edges. 3. The linear expansion rate for MultiCor is approximately 0.156" per 10°F temperature change for every 1 00 feet of tubing. 4. MultiCor tubing should not be rigidly anchored with supports, but instead allowed freedom of movement to expand and contract. 5. Allow adequate clearance between MultiCor tubing and the structure (bored holes or sleeves) to allow freedom of movement due to thermal expansion

and contraction.Pipe Support Spacing MultiCor must be anchored securely enough to support the tubing, yet relaxed enough to allow the tubing to expand and contract. 1. For spacing recommendations, please use the following chart as a guide: 2. Along vertical runs, install supports every 4' to 5' at each floor and mid-story guide.

Making Connections

Making a MultiPress FittingStep 1: Prepare the MultiCor Tubing1. Square cut the PEX tubing perpendicular to the length of the tubing.2. Use a Wirsbo tubing cutter (E6081125 or E6081500) to ensure a proper cut.3. After cutting the tubing, use the appropriate chamfering tool on the tubing end. Use either the three way chamfering tool for ¹⁄₂", ⁵⁄₈" and ³⁄₄" tubing or individual T-handled chamfering tools for ¹⁄₂", ⁵⁄₈" ³⁄₄" and 1" tubing.4. Chamfer the tubing end until uniform. Remove the tool and clean any shavings from the chamfered end.

Step 2: Install the MultiPress Fitting1. Insert the tubing end into the MultiPress fitting until the tubing is visible through the witness holes onthe stainless steel sleeve. Take care not to damage the o-rings.2. Ensure the MultiPress Battery Tool has the appropriately sized press head installed. Read theMultiPress Installation Guide, included with the tool, before proceeding.3. Manually push the press head jaws together at the base near the tool body until the jaws can bepositioned over the MultiPress fitting. Release the pressure on the press head so the jaws close downaround the fitting. Position the jaws of the press head equal distances from each end of the fitting'sstainless steel sleeve.

4. Engage the trigger switch to close the jaws over the fitting. Hold the trigger until you hear a clicking noise that signals the press is complete. Push the reset button and manually push the press head jaws together at the base near the tool body until the jaws release the head from the completed fitting.

5. When using the MultiPress Manual Tool, press the handles of the tool together until they close against the stops. Release the handles and remove the tool from the completed fitting.

Leak check Connections

1. After all the Pex-Al-Pex tubing has been supported and connected to the RC and CDU open all valves between the RC and CDU (Keep isolation valves between CDU and chilled water supply closed.

2. Use dry nitrogen and pressurize RC and CDU Pex connections to 100 psig.3. Use spray soap bubbles at threaded connections to check for leaks. 4. Ensure system holds pressure for 1 hour5. If leaks are found de-pressurize system and snug connections until tight and leak free.6. Pex-Al-Pex tubing needs to be continuous from CDU to RC units. No slicing is permitted in home runs of pex.
