Let’s build a comprehensive understanding of where, how and why gender stereotypes are perpetuated in early learning environments, breaking down myths and misconceptions about gender-based differences of children. Throughout this two-part workshop experience, participants will be offered information, practical strategies, developmentally responsive tips, resources, checklists and other helpful tools to support them in offering a more positive and diverse representation of gender norms. This workshop aims to support practitioners in their efforts to ensure that we are all free to be, you and me – to belong, to be well, to be engaged and to be expressive.
Children with ASD are sometimes described as being “in their own little world.” This workshop focuses on strategies to encourage early social interaction and communication for difficult to engage children who may be on the Autism Spectrum. Early learning environment modifications and sensory considerations will be discussed as well as strategies to encourage early communication with a focus on establishing imitation, and the use of communication temptations and people games.

Continuous Professional Learning LEARN EDUCATE LEAD
We will take an in-depth look at environments from the children’s perspective. You will learn how to engage children in gathering the data and facilitating an environment that captures the children’s perspective. We will be examining the mosaic approach, which looks at a variety of methods for listening to children about their environment.
Bringing up a concern regarding a child’s development can be stressful for the Early Childhood Educator to broach as well as for a parent to hear. Learn how to initiate a potentially difficult conversation that allows a family to hear about a concern from someone who has their child’s best interest at heart and to receive information they need to go forward. While it may be difficult, your efforts in raising sensitive issues or sharing difficult news can have a significant positive influence in helping a child achieve his/her potential.

What are the effects of children’s ability to self-regulate? How can educators support children’s development of self-regulation in the early learning environments? Together we will explore and examine self-regulation in children aged 2.5 to 6 years.
What do bullies look like today? What can you do to prevent bullying in your environment? We will discuss the facts around bullying, including its types and their effects. We will learn bullying prevention strategies, tools to use in any situation as well as intervention methods.

The goal is to encourage educators to make the
topic “Nutrition” something that permeates
through the day’s activities and discussions.
Educators will reflect about their own views of
body image and food choices that can impact the
children’s opinions. It is important to look at the
topic of sugar and how abundant sugar is in our
foods today.
