WORK-UP SCENARIOSMichelle Willis, COMT, OSA, OSCThis interactive course will present several work-up scenarios and encourage attendees to review and discuss what to do in different situations. It will explore how the work-up process can change depending upon patient presentation.

9:55-10:45 a.m. CURRENT MODALITIES OF CORNEAL TISSUE PREPARATIONNeil Choplin, MD Recent advances in technology have allowed for a rapid change in the methods of donor corneal tissue preparation. This course will describe the present techniques of donor tissue preparation for PKP, DSEK, DMEK and IEK. In addition, donor tissue preparation for glaucoma surgery will be discussed.

10:45-11:35 a.m. DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF OCULAR TRAUMAEydie Miller-Ellis, MD Ocular trauma is a common cause of visual loss in North America. Appropriate and timely intervention by health personnel can restore a patient’s vision to previous levels. Recognition of the extent of trauma and timely referral when warranted is crucial to a positive visual outcome. This lecture will review most of the potential disorders caused by trauma and strategies to successfully deal with them.

12:40-1:30 p.m. ETHICS FOR AOPMarc Lafontaine, BSc, COMT This course will describe a code of ethics and discuss the role of ethics for Allied Ophthalmic Personnel (AOP) and how to identify, analyze and resolve ethical problems in a clinical and surgical setting.

1:30-2:20 p.m. THE AMAZING EYE: A KALEIDOSCOPE OF OCULAR FACTSWilliam Ehlers, MDThis course discusses the evolution of the eye and eye care, as well as the importance of vision to the success and enjoyment of life. The processing and interpretation of visual information will be discussed. Fascinating eye facts and examples of visual references from pop culture will be presented.

2:35-3:25 p.m. BASICS OF SURGICAL ASSISTING Natalie Loyacano, COMT, ROUB, OCS, OSAThis course will discuss surgical assisting with ophthalmic surgical procedures. Preparation for surgical set up by following sterile technique guidelines, specific surgical instruments, care and maintenance of these instruments, and set up of surgical equipment, such as phaco machine and vitrectomey machine will be reviewed.

3:25-4:15 p.m. CATARACT SURGERY WORLD WIDEKenneth Westfield, MDThis course will cover the decision on where to go, preparations (including visas, packing, and personnel), equipment and types of procedures done.

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS:All cancellations and requests for refunds must be received by IJCAHPO in writing. A processing fee of $75 is deducted from each cancelled registration to cover a portion of the costs IJCAHPO incurs. ATPO memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable.
