2. PERITONEAL DIALYSIS: THIS IS A TUBE CALLED A CATHETER IS PUT INTO THE PATIENT’S BELLY, AND SPECIAL FLUID IS USED TO FILTER THE BLOOD
IN HEMODIALYSIS, SURGERY MAY BEPERFORMED ON THE ARMS OR LEGS TO INSERTGRAFTS OR FISTULAS. THESE ARE CONNECTEDTO BLOOD VESSELS AND ALLOW THE DIALYSISMACHINE TO ACCESS THE PATIENT’S BLOOD. THOSE WITH FISTULAS OR GRAFTS ACTS, AS ACATHETER THAT GOES DIRECTLY INTO A BLOODVESSEL TO COLLECT THE BLOOD.
THE BLOOD GOES INTO THE MACHINE THATFILTERS IT, THEN RETURNS CLEAN BLOOD TOTHE PATIENT’S BODY.
IN PERITONEAL DIALYSIS , A SOFT TUBE CALLED APERITONEAL CATHETER IS PUT INTO THE BELLY BYWAY OF OPERATION. A SOLUTION IS PUTTHROUGH THE CATHETER INTO YOUR BELLY. THEINSIDE WALLS OF THE BELLY ARE LINED WITH AMEMBRANE CALLED THE PERITONEUM, WHICHALLOWS WASTED PRODUCTS AND EXTRA FLUID TOPASS FROM THE BLOOD INTO THE DIALYSISSOLUTION.
THE WASTE AND FLUID LEAVES THE BODY WHENTHE DIALYSIS SOLUTION IS DRAINED.
