Preserved Electric Units ............................................................... 175 (Names ......................................................................................... 179)
Loco Hauled Coaching Stock ....................................................... 181
This comprehensive spotters book lists all Network Rail registered Locos including private owner and preserved, Diesel and Electric Multiple Units and Coaching stock on UK railways. For the first time all Steam Locos owned / operated by the big four (including constituent companies) and BR are included, not just NR registered. Also covered are MPVs, self powered Track Machines, Light Rail & Metro systems and Underground systems. The practical book is a handy companion to the ICRS UK Combine 2015, which contains more detailed information.
Unless shown otherwise entries for Rolling Stock are laid out as follows:
Locomotives Number - Last Number Carried - Pool - Depot - Name*
All locos, regardless of status (Operational, Stored, Preserved or Privately Owned), are listed in one section. This is due to the now less distinct differences between locos and the frequent changes of status we now see on today’s railway.
Diesel and Electric Units Set Number - Depot – Carriage Numbers - Name*
Coaching Stock Number - Depot - Name*
* by its nature this book has less space and for clarity, most names in the sections on Shunting and Mainline Diesel Locomotives and all in Preserved Units are listed together at the end of each relevant section. Vehicles with names in the separate lists are denoted by $ in the numerical lists.
All codes are listed at the back of this book. Please see the contents page at the front for details. In addition the following should be noted:
In the Depot column: a value in brackets eg (TO) is a storage location
In the Pool column: Wdn = Withdrawn, Pres = Preserved, Priv = Private Owner/Industrial use.
This has been prepared by the Inter City Railway Society using all available information up to 1st January 2015 and we welcome all comments and queries which should be directed to:

The following list includes all preserved steam locomotives that were built for and / or were operated by the Big Four and their former constituent companies and British Railways. New locomotives eg. 60163 built to re-place scrapped classes or in the case of 9351 what might have been, are also included but only once construction has started. The four former War Department (WD) locos are included that never worked in the UK prior to being repatriated and given UK identities in preservation ie. 8274, 45170, 90733 & 90775 and these are denoted by (WD) in the area code. The former operating area for each loco is listed with the exception of recent new builds. The status of each loco is included, as locos may be dismantled as part of an overhaul / ongoing restoration or stored in a dismantled state, hopefully helping you find them easier !! Status Key: (a combination of codes may be shown eg. N/O) A active (current boiler certificate) S static exhibit / stored O under overhaul / restoration from Barry condition (parts may be at various locations) D stored dismantled N new build constructed from scratch or with components from scrapped locos (N) new build under construction C new build constructed by conversion of a former donor loco ie. 9351 (5193) (C) new build under construction ie. 2999 (4942), 84030 (78059)

TRACK MAINTENANCE VEHICLES
This section is not intended to cover all on-track plant but is restricted to large track maintenance vehicles, excluding most associated materials handling wagons. For full specification / manufacturer of each type, please refer to UK Wagons. (s) denotes stored vehicles.
SELF-PROPELLED VEHICLES The following track maintenance vehicles are able to travel separately under diesel power to track work sites. They are mostly single vehicles, twin articulated units with some multiple vehicle fixed formations (rail grinders).
