So more than just our church name, we are advent peo- ple. At NaCoMe, we are talking about how the hope of Christ’s second advent shapes our lives as kingdom people now, using the theme “STAY WOKE.” We get this theme from I Thessalonians 5:6, which says we are children of the day, so we should stay awake and keep watch. In that is the whole idea of watching and wait- ing for Christ's return. It's a deep desire for things to be made right, to be with our Savior, to see the Kingdom of God fully realized in our world. But this verb even goes one step further. Instead of a passive watching and waiting, looking out a window while twiddling our thumbs, it implies action to bring the fu- ture reality into the present. Staying woke means realizing what God is doing in the world and being aware of where He is leading us. Staying woke means enacting the future Kingdom of God in the way we love each other, love outsiders, bring peace and justice, and offer hope. So pray for the many students and advisors participating in the best weekend ever at NaCoMe. As well, pray for Advent, that we can be advent people that offer an incredible hope to this world. If we stay woke, if we are constantly shaped by the future offered to us by Christ’s return, then we can live as people with a certain hope, embodying love, and showing the power of faith. Cheerios! Stay Woke

Some might think all weekends were created equal, but I'm here to declare, they are

not! Ask any Advent student: NaCoMe is undoubtedly the best weekend of the year!

Our youth ministry fall retreat will take place November 10-12, and as always, it will

be an incredible time to have fun, worship Christ, grow closer together and closer to

God. We will be thinking hard together about some real issues.

It's not hard to see that this world is broken. There is hatred, jealousy, arrogance,

deception, and prejudice; and that’s just in my own heart! In our world we see horri-

ble crime, terrible injustice, depression on the rise, broken families, murder, and dis-

ease. But just the fact that we can all agree on this means there’s a desire in us for

    something greater, something better.

We see glimpses of that something better when we see actions of reconciliation

and attempts at righting wrongs; but what are we working towards? That’s where

Christ steps into this world and creates a people of faith in Him with a magnificent

hope to offer to His creation. This is more than a call to social justice or an attempt

at an American utopia. This is real hope from a certain future invading the present

    with a faith-producing love.

At NaCoMe, we will be studying I Thessalonians 5. This passage springs from a dis-

cussion of Christ’s second coming, or second advent. We find ourselves between

the two advents of Christ. So more than just our church name, we are advent peo-

ple. At NaCoMe, we are talking about how the hope of Christ’s second advent

shapes our lives as kingdom people now, using the theme “STAY WOKE.” We get

should stay awake and keep watch. In that is the whole idea of watching and wait-ing for Christ's return. It's a deep desire for things to be made right, to be with our
