CONSTRUCTION OF DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

Title and Image

So I decided to have the same font as I have used through out the magazine. So I visited www.dafont.com and chose the most popular basic title, removed the back ground in Photoshop using the magic wand tool and imported into fireworks. I decided to put I right underneath Niamh so it gave the effect that she was sat on the title.

Here is the original photo

This is an example of another picture I used but I carried out the same actions to erase the bits of the picture I did not want ( stool, wall and door) by using the back ground eraser tool.

Text and quotations

Prior to starting my magazine I had a video interview with Niamh where I asked her several interview questions. I did this as it would make it easier when creating my double page spread. I used pretty much exactly what she said and typed it onto my template layout, where I chose a suitable size and used a black colour. Alignment was very important again as this was what could make the difference between a novice double page spread or a professional one.

My market research helped me as I liked the idea of having quotations in the middle of the text that stood out. For this I selected nice quotations that were already in the text and used dafont to convert my text into a bold title, with the same font and colour I had already been using in my magazine.

Outside the double page

From previous research on how to make my magazine look professional, I noticed that the name of the magazine, page number and date was always around the outside of the spread. I decided to adopt this convention. I had already used the line drawing tool to draw my layout. I kept within the colour scheme by using red text. The font style was the same as the rest of the magazine, but the size was considerable smaller. I wanted readers to be able to see this, but I didn’t want it to bombard the double page. I put the magazine name in the top left hand corner, the date in the top-right corner and the page numbers on the outside corners of each page. Although this was a simple and easy thing to do in the process, I think it makes it look professional.
