TEPIN SET TO SHOW OFF AT SPABy Blood-Horse Staff
Tepin's connection to Saratoga Springs. N.Y. dates
to her purchase from the 2012 Fasig-Tipton Sara-
toga select sale, and the champion turf female will
get another chance to show her brilliance at Sarato-
ga Race Course Aug. 13 in the $500,000 Fourstardave
Handicap (gr. IT) against the boys.
The upstate oval handed Tepin her toughest beats
last year; she lost the Diana Stakes (gr. IT) by a nose
to Hard Not to Like and missed the Ketel One Ballston
Spa (gr. IIT) a head from Dacita. But she has not lost
since then, capturing the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT)
over male rivals to cap 2015, and carries a streak of
seven straight wins for Robert Masterson into the turf
test at her wheelhouse mile.
Trainer Mark Casse confirmed Tepin's Fourstar-
dave run after the daughter of Bernstein worked
an easy four furlongs in :50.42 July 22 on Saratoga's
Oklahoma turf training course, with a five-furlong
gallop-out under regular rider Julien Leparoux.

LATEST HEADLINES FROM BLOODHORSE.COMSTRADIVARI SUSTAINS CAREER-ENDING INJURY Following a career-ending injury sustained during a workout July 22 at Saratoga Race Course, Stradivari is resting at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
SONGBIRD LOGS FIRST GALLOP AT SARATOGA Champion Songbird logged her first gallop over Saratoga Race Course's main track July 22.
ALBERTA DOWNS TAKES UNIQUE APPROACH TO RACES The simple sentence posted at 10:50 a.m. July 17 on the Alberta Downs Facebook page was not especially surprising to anyone following the twists and turns of the small track this summer: "There will be no racing today at Alberta Downs."
QUEEN'S PLATE TOP 3 RETURN IN PRINCE OF WALES The top three finishers in the Queen's Plate Stakes—Sir Dudley Digges, Amis Gizmo, and All On Red—are set to face off in the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes July 26 at Fort Erie.
Tepin, who won the June 14 Queen Anne Stakes
(Eng-I) at Royal Ascot last out and is targeting a run
in the Sept. 17 Ricoh Woodbine Mile (Can-IT), will be
joined in a Spa performance by fellow Casse trainee
Catch a Glimpse, who also shares a perfect record in
2016. The 3-year-old City Zip filly is 5-for-5 this year
after her front-running triumph in the July 9 Belmont
Oaks Invitational (gr. IT) and will target the Aug. 21
Lake Placid (gr. IIT).
"The plan is to run Tepin in the Fourstardave and
Catch a Glimpse in the Lake Placid," said Casse. "I
was kind of struggling with how we were going to get
Tepin to the Woodbine Mile.
"The only thing that would keep me from running
Catch a Glimpse here is how she handles the crowd.
This is a very unique place because the crowd gets so
close to you, and some horses can't handle it. She's
not like Tepin—Tepin doesn't care about anything."
Moments after Tepin worked, United Nations
(gr. IT) winner World Approval turned in a brisk
half-mile under Florent Geroux, going in :48.72 to
register the fastest of 25 turf works at the distance.
The grey gelding galloped out five furlongs in 1:01
and is targeting the Aug. 13 Arlington Million (gr. IT),
although he could go in the Aug. 27 Sword Dancer
(gr. IT) instead.
Over on the main track, grade I winner Noble Bird
breezed four furlongs in a sharp :47.66, second-fast-
est of 47 works at the distance. The move had Casse
thinking big with the 5-year-old, who was scratched
from the July 9 Suburban (gr. II).
"That was as good as I've ever seen Noble Bird
work," Casse said. "He may have earned himself
a ticket to the (Aug. 6) Whitney. We'll see how he
comes out of it. He just wasn't himself the morning
of the Suburban... but when the real Noble Bird
shows up, he can run with anyone."
Casse also has Bashford Manor (gr. III) winner
Classic Empire and Debutante Stakes winner Pretty
City Dancer pointed to the Hopeful (gr. I) and Spina-
way (gr. I) closing weekend at Saratoga. Both worked
four furlongs July 22 at Churchill Downs, with Classic
Empire going in a bullet :46 2/5. BH
