My name is Tanya Crenshaw.

Given the school’s small classes, challenging program, and great faculty, my education opened a lot of doors for me.

I graduated from the University of Portland in 1998.

After graduation, I worked as a Software Engineer at Sharp Microelectronics and Wind River.

I wrote software for things like medical devices, cell phones, avionics, and global positioning systems.

In 2002 (despite my annual salary of $68,000), it was time to follow a dream.

I wanted to be a professor...

...in the middle of corn country.

After six years, I’m defending my doctoral dissertation entitled, “Architectural Reference Models for Safety-Critical Systems.”

Basically, I kept studying cool stuff.

This fall, I’ll be returning to the University of Portland: This time, as a professor.

I’ll be joining a great computer science faculty, many trained at top 10 universities.
