WHY MEASURE VIEW ANGLE?
• View angle:Angle at which a display can be viewed with acceptable performance
• Displays appear in more commonly-used devices
• Displays increasingly integral to device function
• Quality of display impacts perceived quality of device
• Relative position of device to user is increasingly variable

KEY FACTORS IN VIEW ANGLE PERFORMANCE
Luminance
• Brightness of a display should appear uniform to the human eye regardless of viewing position.
Chromaticity
• Colors of a display should appear the same regardless of viewing position.
Contrast
• Angular contrast (including brightness and color) of the display should be sufficient to ensure legibility of symbols and text against a background regardless of viewing position.

WHAT IS A CONOSCOPE?
• Transforms a directional distribution of light rays emanating from a single point (creating a cone) to a lateral distribution (all light rays parallel)
• Able to capture the entire visible “cone” of angular light rays on a single focal plane (image sensor in a camera)

WHAT IS A CONOSCOPE?
• Utilizes Fourier optics that map a light-emitting spot to a sensor so each pixel corresponds to a different emission angle

SUMMARY
The ability to clearly view displays from multiple angles is critical to operating devices with increasingly variable position to user
New display technologies and integrations demand greater control over view angle performance
A conoscope lens instantly captures light and color from all view angles of a display in a single measurement without moving the camera or device
Radiant’s conoscope lens offers the advantage of speed, size, and software well-suited for production lines
Paired with an imaging photometer or colorimeter, the conoscope lens is a fast, accurate, and cost-effective view angle measurement solution
