“Good leadership, the school encourage students to push them-selves and get involved in more than just lessons” Y11 Parent Dec 2019
I joined Imberhorne as Assistant Headteacher, leading Key Stage 3 in 2012 and I love every minute. There is something quite special about this school, working at a place where staff and students really care about each other is probably what gives it the extra little bit of magic.
I trained as a PE teacher in Cardiff and worked for 18 years at Croesyceiliog school in Cwmbran. It was here that I became a Head of Year and then moved into the Senior Leadership Team. People are often fooled by a hint of a Welsh accent which is slowly diminishing but I am actually from Galway on the west coast of Ireland. Having a family has given me less time for my passions although I believe strongly in the need for regular exercise for my own sanity and I am huge advocate of this for our students.
Mr M Jones - Assistant Headteacher
I joined Imberhorne as a Maths Teacher in 1992, becoming Head of Year a few years later. My current role as Assistant Headteacher, a post I have held since 2012, is to over-see the strategic planning and implementation of the whole school timetable, lead in student academic communications to parents/carers and produce and analyse school data for both parents, staff and the wider community.
As a Maths graduate from the University of Oxford, I thoroughly enjoy working at Imber-horne in such a successful Maths department. In my spare time I am Chair of Governors at a primary school and I love tending to my allotment with my two children.
OUR SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM CONT’D
“The headteacher and senior leaders lead the school with passion and determination. Leaders, including governors, are ambitious for academic success and in enabling pupils to be happy and well-rounded individuals”

Mr M Conroy - Deputy Headteacher
In 2014, I was very pleased to join such a successful school as Imberhorne and work with such a hard-working and talented team, progressing from my role as Assistant Headteacher at a school in Hove. My role is a very broad one, covering the design of the curriculum and assessment as well as the more organisational tasks such as the over-seeing the school calendar, staffing cover and all school trips.
I still very much enjoy teaching my subject, History, especially at Key Stage 5 where I can pursue my love of modern Russian history. Outside of school, I very much enjoy watching and participating in sport. These days I am restricted to watching rugby and football, but I still manage to pick up a tennis racket occasionally and over the last few years have developed a passion for cycling.
Mr D Jones - Assistant Headteacher
I joined Imberhorne in 2012 having previously held teaching posts in Worthing and Heathfield in East Sussex. I absolutely love working at Imberhorne which allows me to work so closely with our brilliant students and their parents. My role covers a number of areas including leading Key Stage 4 as well as behaviour and safeguarding across the school.
I originally trained as a History teacher and history remains a passion. I enjoy visiting places of historical interest at home and abroad. I have also discovered a love of running, having completed 3 half-marathons to date!
Imberhorne students have access to work experience programmes in Year 10 and 12, we run a successful D of E scheme from Y10 and offer many volunteering op-portunities. We also have careers staff in school providing advice for our students.

In a recent Parent’s Forum meeting, a
question was raised as to whether Imber-
horne staff have training to support the
mental health needs of our students.
This is an area that we have invested in
enormously to ensure that our staff and
students are supported as much as we can.
In the last 18 months we are pleased to
share the impressive amount of training
that has been provided for the following
amount of staff:
Understanding our Emotions - 16
Young People and Eating Disorders - 2
Papyrus - Suicide Training - 15
Understanding Children’s and Young
People’s Mental Health - 1
