ACC Athletics Champions

Our athletics team rose to new heights last Friday’s ACC Athletics Carnival with a commanding display leading to plenty of silverware at the WA Athletics Stadium. After an early three-way tussle with St Norbert and Seton Colleges, our athletes slowly but steadily edged their way to a strong position through some strong 200m and 400m events with some terrific efforts in the field. A few anxious relay moments mattered little as the comfortable lead was consolidated with some steady performances to close out the program, and confirm our second carnival win in three years. Amongst a very strong team performance, our standout performance of the day came from Year 9 student Dante Armstrong when he broke the ACC record for the U/15 1500m. His time of 4:16.49 shaved four seconds off the previous best, and is a remarkable achievement given that the association began in 1937. Dante’s record came off the back of an 800m/1500m double and caps a great year for him after taking out the ACC Cross Country title in May. We congratulate the following students who achieved the following placing in their respective age categories: Cara Dziegielewski Age Champion U/14 Girls Mia Conroy Age Champion U/16 Girls Loghan Moir Age Champion U/16 Boys Jeremiah Kori Third Place U/13 Boys Declan Morrison Third Place U/16 Boys Anthony Galea Third Place Open Boys The most pleasing feature of our performance was the disciplined effort of our entire team. Whilst we do have some very talented athletes who were a big part of our win, it was the attention to detail of all team members in ensuring that we had no disqualifications across the day to provide us with the platform for the result. Our team was enthusiastic, gave their best effort across the day, and really earned this great result. We progress to B division next year, a first for our College, and we should be confident of being able to produce another strong showing. Many thanks to our amazing staff in Ms Harvey, Ms Billam, Ms Ratajczak, Mr Carbone, Mr Bright and Mr Lund who gave up plenty of afternoons to help prepare our athletes. Thanks also to our parents for their support on the day – your support is always greatly appreciated. Mr Ben Dyer Head of Sports

Campus Ministry Assembly

The Campus Ministry Assembly was held on Tuesday, 21st September in the Paul Rafter Centre. Chanel Collins and Joshua Grobbelaar, Campus Ministry Prefects, lead the Assembly. The Campus Ministry Assembly presented the ways students and staff have worked hard to animate the College Motto of Prayer, Service and Justice. Campus Ministry creates opportunities for our students, staff and families to put their faith into action by animating the Gospel values. We constantly benefit from the support of our talented and dedicated team of staff namely Mrs Bell, Mrs Peters, Miss Thomson, Mr Summers and Mr Carbone. Examples of Campus Ministry programs, events and initiatives include the vast array of Service opportunities made available through Irene’s Service Learning Program, our weekly Masses and other liturgical celebrations, Mass Band liturgical music, Retreats, various charity appeals and the Irene McCormack Sacramental program. The following Year 12 students were presented with a certificate for contributing over 100 hours towards Irene’s Service Learning.

ELYSIAN Lunch On Friday, 17th September, the dance students attended an Elysian lunch where they had the opportunity to relax, enjoy some food and re-watch some of their performances. This was a great opportunity for the students to reflect on their performances and discuss the memorable moments from the event. To conclude the lunch, the Year 11 Dance ATAR students presented the Year 12 ATAR students with a final farewell. Aleisha Carpene and Mandie Lombard generously gifted their fellow students’ flowers, chocolate and a personalised embroidered towel. It was great to have the dance students come together again to reflect on the unforgettable evening and it was heart warming to watch the two Year 11 students say their farewells to the Year 12 Dance ATAR students. We wish all the Year 12 Students well for their future endeavors and look forward to the remainder of Dance for 2021. Miss Jessica McGaw Dance Teacher

COVID-19 Update With the lead up to the Term 3 break we pass on the following information for the Western Australian Health Department and Catholic Education WA. Vaccinations From 13th September 2021, all Western Australians aged 12 and over are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. Information on WA’s Vaccination Program can be found on the Healthy WA website. The WA Government would like all Year 12 students to be vaccinated ahead of their end of year exams and leavers' week. Their plan is that all Year 11 and Year 12 students will get priority access to the Pfizer vaccine through government-run clinics. We are awaiting further direction and clarity from Department of Health and will provide this as soon as possible. Vaccination is now open for Western Australians aged 12-16 at all State-run vaccination clinics. Bookings are essential. Parents and guardians can register their children as a dependant under their account and book them an appointment by visiting Roll up for WA. All eligible Western Australians are encouraged to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Interstate Travel With the school holidays approaching, if there is consideration for students to travel interstate for any reason, could you please contact your son or daughter’s Year level Assistant Deputy Principal. Appropriate arrangements need to be in place should circumstances change and they are required to hotel self-quarantine on return to Western Australia, or are unable to re-enter the state. Dunlea House Footy Tipping Winners Dunlea House Care Groups participated in the AFL Footy Tipping Competition for the 2021, with the winning Care Group receiving a pizza lunch. The rivalry between the Care Groups was at times competitive but always friendly and light hearted. After 23 rounds of competition, 7DA was the winning Care Group (130), followed by 11DB (121) and 9DA (121). 7DA thoroughly enjoyed their pizza lunch on Wednesday.
