Prerequisites for Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM EHWICs• Ensure that you have the appropriate Cisco router to serve as the host router.
The following Cisco routers support Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM EHWICs:
– Cisco 1921 ISR
– Cisco 1941 ISR
– Cisco 2901 ISR
– Cisco 2911 ISR
– Cisco 2921 ISR
– Cisco 2951 ISR
– Cisco 3925 ISR
– Cisco 3925-E ISR

• Use the show version command to ensure that the router is running the correct IOS software. The C888EA and EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA models require Cisco IOS Release Release: <optional, example: Cisco IOS Release 15.1(1)T> or later.
Note When minimum release requirements are met, you can change images on the router without affecting performance.
• Install the Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM EHWIC on the router, using the directions provided in Cisco Interface Cards Hardware Installation Guide and Cisco Network Modules and Interface Cards Regulatory Compliance and Safety Information.
Information About Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATMCisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATM EHWICs support up to four pairs of digital subscriber lines (DSL). The fixed platform model (C888EA) also supports up to four pairs. The DSL pairs are bundled in groups and configured in the Cisco IOS command-line interface (CLI) by using the dsl-group command. Selecting the mode is done by using the mode command.

Cisco G.SHDSL EFM/ATMThe Cisco EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA provides up to four lines of connectivity through one RJ-45 connector (see Figure 1), in EFM or ATM modes. The Cisco 888EA fixed platform (see Figure 2) supports up to four lines of connectivity through one RJ-45 connector, in EFM or ATM modes.
Note The C888EA and the Cisco EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA support the Dying Gasp feature. The term dying gasp refers to power status as defined in ITU-T standard G.991.2, section 7.1.2.5.3.

shdsl rate auto Selects the best data rate possible for the given configurations at Central Office (CO) and Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) locations.
You can configure the current and worst case SNR margins using the shdsl rate auto command to enable rate adaption/PMMS/line probing.

Configuring Bonding Groups in ATM ModeUse the Cisco IOS CLI on the router in global configuration mode to configure bonding groups in the ATM mode on the Cisco EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA, or on the C888EA. There are two types of bonding groups possible in ATM mode: M-pair and IMA.
Note To ensure a successful bonding group in the ATM mode configuration, confirm that the central office (CO) network equipment that is connected with the Cisco EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA is also configured with the same bonding group type.

Upgrading to a New Firmware Release
You can upgrade to a new firmware release using one of the following procedures:
Procedure 1

In order to determine the version of the firmware that is currently running, execute the following command and review the PHY source, PHY firmware files, the Integrated Device Control (IDC) firmware version, and the DFE firmware version in the output:

Usage Guidelines The link stability timer is supported only on Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) for interoperability with Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs), such as Overture HN4000, that support data transmission delay of a few seconds to dampen out unstable links in scenarios where demanding circumstances, such as lightning, long multirepeater spans, and so on, prevail. The link stability timer introduces a data transmission delay in the user-configured value after the links are in the UP_DATA mode in order to achieve a stable SYNC status with the DSLAM.
The Link Stability feature enables interoperability with the Overture DSLAM. After a 2 bpme (BASE-TL PME) reaches the data mode, the HN4000 (Overture DSLAM) waits for approximately 13 seconds before checking for the 64/65 lock. Due to this, whenever a link is added to an existing bonding group, network traffic stops completely for about 13 seconds. Hence, the optimal link stability value for the Overture DSLAM is set at 13 seconds to avoid packet drops in the DSLAM.
For other DSLAMs that do not exhibit this behavior, the link stability duration can be set to 0 seconds, the default value during the termination at the CPE.

Usage Guidelines Use the dsl-group command in configuration controller mode to define the DSL group and manually configure the DSL group from configuration controller mode. Use the dsl-group auto command to automatically adopt the Central Office (CO) wire configuration on an ATM DSL group (EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA, HWIC-4SHDSL) or EFM DSL group (EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA). Use the dsl-group pairs to define the DSL group as Ethernet First Mile (EFM) bonding group (HWIC-4SHDSL-E, EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA) or ATM DSL group (EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA).
Note Automatic configuration is not supported on IMA groups.
Automatic configuration is limited to only one DSL group and ATM interface (EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA, HWIC-4SHDSL) or Ethernet interface (EHWIC-4SHDSL-EA). After a group is automatically configured, no other group can be created. All manually created groups must be deleted before creating an automatic configuration group.
Examples The following example shows how to use the dsl-group command to create an IMA-DSL group and enter configuration controller DSL group mode:
ignore (Optional) Ignores CRC errors. Length of timeout, in seconds. The range is from 0 to 60 seconds.
shutdown (Optional) Shuts down the DSL group.
