The 2019 Housing Colorado Now Conference took place October 9-11 at the Keystone Conference Center. Over 945 affordable housing professionals from 33 states aended, making this 31st annual conference our biggest one yet! Keynotes Our keynote speakers provided inspiraon throughout Conference. David A. Smith from the Affordable Housing Instute presented “The View from 2024: How We Thrived Over the Past Five Years” during Wednesday’s opening session, and Chaos Expert Corinne Hancock wrapped up Conference on Friday with insights from her experiences of building teams in high-pressure situaons around the globe. We also heard from expert panelists during Thursday’s breakfast session about Federal housing policy, and our Thursday lunch panel discussed how their work in transportaon, educaon, health care, and criminal jusce all intersect with housing. Conference Recap Workshops To ensure that we offered educaonal sessions relevant to all aendees, this year’s conference tracks were: Advocacy & Policy, Design, Development, Finance, Property Management & Services, and Small Communies. Popular workshops focused on a wide range of topics, including: private acvity bonds, trauma-informed design, workforce housing development and delivery, an-growth iniaves in Colorado, permanent supporve housing, alternave financing, and innovave tools to support permanent affordability. We also offered pre-conference sessions on Wednesday morning for new aendees: “The Connuum of Affordable Housing” and the First-Time Aendee Orientaon. Networking One of the most unique aspects of Housing Colorado’s annual conference is having opportunies to connect with hundreds of fellow members of the affordable housing community. Aſter wrapping up each day’s educaonal sessions, aendees caught up with old and new friends at our evening recepons. We began with Wednesday night’s Welcome Networking Recepon at the Conference Center, which was followed by the Young Professionals Recepon at the Keystone Adventure Center. Thursday night’s Connecons, Cocktails, & Cards recepon at the Conference Center included a live band with karaoke and a Texas Hold’em tournament.
