New 1-day Summer Conference'Creating Great Communities!'

10am - 4pm. Refreshments and hot buffet lunch provided.

This exciting new one-day conference will look at examples of current best practice in approaches to ‘Creating Great Communities’. This event is intended to motivate, inspire and inform all those who attend.

We have lined up a busy schedule of expert speakers and good practice case studies from the housing sector and beyond, designed to spark ideas and conversations.

Hot topics include:

Professor Calvin Jones, Cardiff UniversityExploring the ‘value’ of community action in developing local economies, tackling poverty and creating jobs and training opportunities for residents.

'Y Shed’ – Developing a ‘community asset transfer’ project. Hear how Grŵp Cynefin housing association is supporting a local community through a ‘community asset transfer’ project to transform a disused Grade 2 listed former railway goods shed into a vibrant community asset designed to provide employment, volunteering and learning opportunities, as well as preserving the local heritage.

Community in ActionPenparcau Community Forum are a community-based organisation who actively engage with their local community to develop sustainable and inclusive community activities and facilities for the benefit of all. Hear all about what they achieved, including their journey of highs and lows to build and complete their own Community Hub and the difference it’s made.

ABCD in practice Coastal Housing Group are using asset-based community development to underpin their approach to engaging in community work. Find out what this means in practise as we hear about examples of projects out in communities as they “focus on what's strong and not what's wrong”.

‘Building’ Healthy Communities Looking at the way communities, health, and social care can take centre-stage when designing and building new housing developments. Linc Cymru will share their experiences of planning a new development and how they succeeded in involving the local community in its design. Exploring the ‘value’ of community action in developing local economies, tackling poverty and creating jobs and training opportunities for residents.

The Big Lottery: from idea to action The Big Lottery have funded over 1,200 community and voluntary organisations across Wales and believe people should be in the lead when improving their lives and communities. The Big Lottery will share some case studies of the range of community projects they have funded as well as offering some Top Tips of what communities should (and shouldn’t!) do when submitting applications.

After a fun-filled day experiencing everything 'Creating Great Communities' has to offer, relax and join us for our evening Awards extravaganza. Spend the night enjoying a delicious three course meal followed by our much anticipated Award

Ceremony. This is a superb opportunity to celebrate the fantastic work happening within Welsh Housing - You never know, you could be a winner!

After our Oscar-topping award ceremony, spend the evening chatting with like-minded delegates and dance the night away with our end of evening disco.

This year our Participation Awards will be held in the fantastic Park Inn Hotel, located in Cardiff City Centre. This hotel’s location is convenient to some of Cardiff city's best
