INTRODUCTIONThe BURNDY® WEJTAP™ System com-ponents are designed to provide the mostreliable connections available, with safer andeasier installations.
The system consists of a WEJTAP™ connec-tor, WEJTAP™ installation tools and power-boosters.
The detailed information on power-boosters,installation tools and accessories follows.
The BURNDY® WEJTAP™ connector usesan aluminum alloy wedge that is power-driv-en between the run and tap cables lockingthem into a ‘‘C” shaped aluminum alloyspring-body.
A wiping action takes place during installa-tion between the conductors and Wedgewhich provides additional cleaning of surfaceoxides to supplement wire brushing. In addi-tion, the contact grooves are lined with apatented PENETROX™ oxide inhibiting com-pound to enhance superior contact surfaceintegrity.
The Wedge is automatically locked onto thespring-body by a skiving action produced bya lance located at the forward end of theinstallation tool.
During the life of the connection, the spring-body continues to maintain pressure toensure a reliable connection.
THE WEJTAP™ CONNECTOR■ Tested to NEMA and CSA Class A heat
cycle requirements to ensure long termreliability.
■ Accommodates a full range of run andtap conductors from #8 to 1590 ACSR inall commonly used conductors to meetthe needs of electrical distribution sys-tems.
■ Color-coded connector, boosters, andtools to assist the installer to make thecorrect selection.
■ “Run locator” chamfer is machined intothe Wedge at the end of the “large”groove to provide positive visual or/andhand contact identification of the largerun groove for correct installation.
■ Removable design allows tap removalwith minimum conductor damage.
■ Tool embosses BURNDY® identifier onend of Wedge to provide system identifi-cation.

BURNDY WEJTAP™
CONNECTION SYSTEM
BURNDY®, a leading manufacturer of qualityelectrical connectors for over 70 years, intro-duces the WEJTAP™ SYSTEM, a systemthat adds further dimension to the existingBURNDY® group of proven, reliable connec-tion systems.
WEJTAP™ COMPONENTS are designed toprovide a reliable system connection. Thesystem consists of WEJTAP™ connectors, installation tools (including a variety of hot-line and lineman accessories) and a uniquepower-booster.
WEJTAP™ CONNECTORS use an alu-minum alloy wedge that is power-drivenbetween the run and the tap cables lockingthem into a “C” shaped tempered aluminumalloy spring-body. The spring-body main-tains consistent pressure throughout the lifeof the connection to ensure reliability duringsevere electrical and climatic conditions. Thewedge’s wiping action combined with facto-ry installed PENETROX™ PENA 13 providessuperior contact integrity. The wedge is auto-matically locked onto the spring-body by askiving action produced by a lance at the for-ward end of the WEJTAP™ installation tool.
THE WEJTAP™ TOOL is a one-pieceassembly that consists of a head and powerunit. Two color-coded interchangeable headsaccept all WEJTAP™ connectors and STIR-RUP™. The design of the tool recognizes theneed for simplicity and speed of operation aswell as outstanding safety features such asautomatic gas release vented away from theoperator, fast simple breech loading and fastadvance when engaging the connectorassembly. No loose parts to drop or misplaceand a booster ejection system that providesfurther safety to the operator. Fewer simpli-fied hotline devices and handy linemanaccessories complete an outstanding toolpackage.
THE WEJTAP™ POWER-BOOSTERPatented is a self-contained device thatprovides the force necessary to drive thewedge into direct contact with the conduc-tors. The booster is activated only whenproperly positioned in the tool assembly. Apower cell in the booster is recessed toguard against premature discharge. Thetool/booster system is designed to activateand deactivate the booster automaticallyshould the operator decide to remove thetool from a connector prior to completing theinstallation. The deactivated booster may besafely removed from the tool.
Features and Benefits
• Large conductor chamfer on ends of wedge.◊ Instant hand or visual identification of
large run grooves. Ensures correctwedge orientation.
• Color-coded WEJTAP™ connector and booster packaged together.◊ Easy selection by installer.

WEJTAP™ ANDTEST DATAWEJTAP™ connectors have been subjectedto extensive tests simulating the most severeservice and weather conditions. In addition, the WEJTAP™ system meets or exceeds theindustry standards of ANSI C119.4 Class 3,NEMA CC3 1973 Class A 500 Heat Cycles.
As with all BURNDY® connectors, the WEJ-TAP™ has been designed to operate coolerthan the attached conductors. The WEJ-TAP™ connectors have also been subjectedto the ASTM B117-73 Salt Spray Test. Theresults are shown to the right.
WEJTAP™
Spring-bodies are color-coded and thewedges are marked with nominal conductorrun and tap ranges. WEJTAP™ connectorpackages are labeled with a variety of com-mon conductors with their nominal ranges.
■ WEJTAP™ connector wedges are markedwith nominal ACSR, Aluminum andCopper concentric standard conductors.
■ Red WEJTAP™ connector range Run 8-1/0 Tap 8-2
■ Blue WEJTAP™ connector range Run 2-300 Tap 6-300
■ Yellow WEJTAP™ connector range Run266.8-1590 Tap 6-1590
All WEJTAP™ wedges contain a clearlydefined chamfer on the large end of the runconductor groove to identify the “large run”groove. Installers will appreciate the conven-ience of visual or hand identification forcorrect wedge positioning.
WEJTAP™ wedges are driven between therun and tap conductors and activate thespring characteristics of the “C” shapedbody. This action maintains contact pressureeven when the connection is subjected tosevere climatic and electrical conditions.

COVERS are installed on WEJTAP™ con-nectors to prevent them from coming incontact with other taps or exposed groundpoints. The WEJTAP™ covers are ruggedsnap-on devices available in four sizes tocover all connector sizes, and are coldweather tested for easy installations.
SAFETY FEATURES
■ Contained booster ejection system thatguards against potential hazard of spentboosters being ejected at installers.
■ Automatic gas release vented away fromthe operator eliminates manual ventingtoward the operator.
■ Power-boosters can only be activatedwhen properly positioned in the tool andengaged on the connector. Power-boosters are automatically deactivatedshould the operator decide to remove thetool from the connector prior to complet-ing the installation. The deactivatedbooster may be safely removed, all to pro-vide a safer tool for your line personnel.
