Concrete chair

The empty cube is a simple chair defined by four square extrusions on its four faces. The utter sim-plicity of this form is offset by a coir rope used to create the backing and seating zones by using a weaving technique. The nuances of the fiber rope against the monolithic mass of concrete is a study in material, process, tectonics and dynamic. Its sturdy, typical appearance like any chair would make it a persons first choice to sit on. More than a mere study in design and formal principles, we extend our reach into perception and cognition, a study in peoples response to certain forms and spaces. With this position, we establish our primacy in design as the people who use and occupy our chair, specifically their constructions of a particular reality. A chair to contemplate, to relax and think about specific things as it takes the background and does not remain the centre of attention in peoples minds. As an architect the humility of our designs is of utmost importance as we are simply setting the stage for the drama of human life.
