7.0 CONCLUSION

This module had given us an insight into the basic understanding of an architect. Through this project, we’ve acknowledge the importance of conserving a heritage building and learned to carry out proper methods of documentation and measured drawings. Besides that, this project has been a daunting task for us in terms of time management and teamwork. Due to restricted manpower and limited time, we allocated specific task to each group member which include Autocad Drawings, report documentation and model making. Many of these tasks are interlink between separate sub teams, hence independency and a good communication is required among every member to cultivate maximum productivity and efficiency of work. We managed to learn a series of documentation method and gain an extra insight of the architecture, historical and cultural background of the building.

To summarize the research conducted at Kedah Royal Museum, it is an old historical building with various cultural and architectural influences from different invaders that once occupied this building. Looking through the history, we can conclude that the development of Kedah’s architecture, culture and history are well synchronized and rich. We had a glimpse of how people live in this area from centuries years ago and how these elements play an important role in enriching the Malay culture which is fused together with the influence from the invaders. This short semester has been an unforgettable and yet mesmerizing experience for all of us. This experience will be long cherished together throughout our whole architecture journey.

The whole group agrees on Approach A for the report and videos which are History and Architecture. A table of content was created for the report to categorize each group members for their own roles. Report aspects were categorized into the following introduction, historical background, architecture detail, construction details and conclusion. Research was required to carry out between each member before the trip to understand more about the building and site.

The equipments to bring consist of camera, printer, batteries, laptop, extension and adapter. A3 paper and butter paper were required to produce on-site sketches among the members. A token of appreciation was prepared before the trip to the museum as a gesture of gratitude. Online research was compile and study together to get some glimpse about the building.
