HOW TO PLAY• Place a game counter for each player on the embrasure (cut away part of battlement) beside the red flag at the left of the board.• Players take turns to draw a card from the deck and:

• Move forward 1 embrasure if it is in root position• Move forward 6 if it is in first inversion• Move forward 6 and back 4 if it is in second inversion

• Players should say "root", "6" or "6 4" as they turn over the cards to reinforce the figured bass analysis.• The winner is the first to reach the green flag on the right side of the board.

LEARNING OBJECTIVEBass Battlements will help students to get used to the basics of figured bass and is a useful first step towards more complex figured bass work.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE• Print out the game board (pages 3–4). Trim along the dotted lines, laminate if desired and tape the board pieces together. • Print out the game cards (pages 5–12) double-sided. Trim along the dotted lines and laminate if desired.• You will also need a game counter for each player (button, eraser, small toy, etc.)
