on the 8th, 9th and 10th of April, 2016
at Awareness Cum Training Center on CST
under UNDP-GEF assisted CSH Project, MNRE, Govn’t of India
by World Renewal Spiritual Trust (WRST)
at "India One" Solar Thermal Power Plant
Brahma Kumaris Shantivan Campus, Abu Road (Raj.)
Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) Technology Training in April 2016 was the eighth program
4th technology training) held by the Awareness Cum Training Centre on CST under UNDP-GEF
Concentrated Heat Technologies Project, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government
of India by WRST at Abu Road, Rajasthan.
The training was focused on the 16 SQM Scheffler paraboloid reflector – its concept, design,
fabrication and installations aspects.
The program gathered 29 participants representing academic scholars, manufacturers,
contractors, installers and consultants from all over India.
The three days of training were a fusion of theoretical and practical field sessions combined with
visits to number of working CST projects employing Scheffler dishes in Abu. Sessions were
conducted by the expert having long time association and practical experience with Scheffler
elliptical dishes.

The intensive agenda included such topics as: concept design of Scheffler dish; its history and
development; layout of installation for various latitudes; determining the exact E-W line; setting
frame to Equinox; mirror cutting, edge grinding and mirror fixing; erection of rotating support;
output calculation and output testing; concept and design of electrical tracking mechanism,
manufacturing aspects etc.
Policies and available support under UNDP-GEF CSHP Project of Ministry of New &
Renewable Energy, Govt. of India were presented, together with case studies for CST solutions
for medium and high temperature applications throughout India.
Participants showed great interest, expressed by active interaction and high level engagement
during sessions and networking time.
Guests had also a chance to learn and visit number of Scheffler dish applications in Abu Road
and Mt Abu, where solar heat is being generated and used for various institutional applications
such as cooking, laundry, sterilization of instruments in the hospital.
We would like to express our deep gratitude to all participants of the 4th CST Technology
Training organized by the CST Center and making it a successful event, contributing to
propagating the CST based systems in India.
Thank You and Om Shanti
