Concentrated Solar Power by GLINTT Energy Concentrated Solar Plants in Portugal [Order nº 18838/2009]
GLINTT is leading the way for a CPV knowledge/industrial cluster in Portugal that will cover all aspects of CPV technology, ranging from research, development, engineering, design, testing, manufacturing and building.
5/11
GLINTT is developing the first pre-commercial scale 1MW power plant in the region of Évora, South of Portugal.
Concentrated Solar Power by GLINTT Energy Barbarrala CPV Plant – Former landfill changed into a CPV Farm
6/11
The Barbarrala central comprises 2.880 CPV modules that are electrically connected in parallel to generate a total power of 1,1 MW PTC;
The arrays are fixed on a dual-axis tracking system, a unique linear tilt and roll tracking system conceived for minimal ground penetration that allows a packing density potential below 4 acres per MW;
About 2.100 MWh/yr of generated electricity will be fed directly to the national power grid.

The Gen III tracker Incorporates installer and operator value with distinct advantages over other solutions:
Easy assembly in the field Easy to maintain in the field Lower costs to install, operate and maintain Reduced foundation costs Significant reduction in manufacturing cost Reduced amount of structural steel for amount of power produced. Reduced height installations leading to easier installation, maintenance and cleaning (no man-lifts or cranes required) A modular system with small module size is easier to manufacture and ship.

8/11
GLINTT works with EMCORE to establish local manufacturing and strong channel penetration for European market and MENA regions aiming:
Significant reduction in manufacturing cost
Working capital needs provided by partners
Building manufacturing capacity of 150-MW
EMCORE is the world primary supplier of CPV components and the only vertically-Integrated CPV Company “From Cell to System”. This vertical integration provides a cost advantage and allows a competitive advantage at the system level, in the ability to optimize the performance of all CPV systems elements and subsystem components.
Product: Development of next-generation CPV system with low-cost optics in process.
Technology Advancement: IMM solar cells for CPV with 45% conversion efficiency is being developed and it is expected by 2012
Business Development: Multiple programs deployed with Gen-III systems. Aggressive effort to develop large utility-scale projects
