In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of love. In our society, much is also spoken of love; often, this seems almost like an instrument used for our benefit.

We have become so accustomed to living in a consumer society in which everything is bought to make us feel better, to make our life more pleasant and more comfortable, that love and human relationships are also thought about from the same perspective. The more pleasure, comfort and well-being a person attains, the more valuable their life will be. Insomuch as they do not get a good salary, a good house, a good car and someone who loves them, their life loses value. That is the current approach.

Jesus makes a clear proposal: love and do it without expecting anything in return, without even expecting God to love you and reward you for it. There is the great mystery of love. Only then will we receive the reward of life and bliss. When we give ourselves to love without limits, when we give love without measure or conditions, then and only then will we experience the love of God that will embrace and fill us. That is what Jesus invites all of us Christians to.

En el evangelio de hoy, Jesús habla del amor. En nuestra sociedad, se habla también mucho de amor; pero, con frecuencia, este

parece casi como un instrumento usado para nuestro beneficio.

Tanto nos hemos acostumbrado a vivir en una sociedad de consumo en la que todo se compra para sentirnos mejor, para hacer nuestra vida más cómoda y más confortable, que el amor y las relaciones humanas también se piensan desde la misma perspectiva. Cuánto más placer, comodidad y bienestar consigue la persona, más valiosa será su vida. En la medida en que no consigue un buen salario, una buena casa, un buen auto y alguien que la ame, su vida pierde valor. Ese es el planteamiento actual.

Jesús hace una propuesta clara: amen y háganlo sin esperar nada a cambio, sin esperar siquiera que Dios los ame y recompense por ello. Ahí está el gran misterio del amor. Solo entonces recibirán la recompensa de la vida y la dicha. Cuando nos entreguemos sin límites al amor, cuando demos amor sin medida y sin condiciones, entonces y solo entonces experimentaremos el amor de Dios que nos envolverá y nos llenará. A eso es que Jesús nos invita a todos los cristianos. TO PONDER...

LUNCHEON The annual House of Compassion Soup Bowl Luncheon fundraiser will be held at St. Henry's Catholic Church from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb 24th. This is an important fundraiser for the HoC and a great community-building event!

KID'S CARE FOOD PACKAGING EVENT Don’t miss this hands-on way to share the love with the world! We will be packaging food on March 10th at St. Mary's Church. GOING NATURAL—A HEALTHY CHOICE Plan to attend Marshalltown’s first

ever “GOING NATURAL– A Healthy

Choice” conference. It will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at MCC’s DeJardin Hall from 9:00AM – 3:00PM. All are welcome, including engaged and married couples, counselors, teachers, students, clergy, doctors, nurses, pharmacists and social workers. The class objective is to present a scientific analysis of the chemistry of sex, fertility and relationships. Lunch is included in your registration fee.
