Alabama Computer Science Summer Camps (commuter and dorm-based options) Overview of Summer Camps – The Univer sity of Alabama Department of Computer Science will host a series of computer science camps in July 2012. – Students will be taught multiple topics of computer science while learning to program a computer in several exciting contexts (robotics control and smartphone apps). The Comput er Scienc e Camps are taught in a manner that encourages self-expl oration across multipl e projec ts. – The high school camps are offered to rising sophomores through seniors. All camps are taught by UA faculty in our computer science labs. – Both commuter and dorm-based (high school only) options are provided. Those students from outside of the commuting range to Tuscaloosa may reside in our dorms throughout the week. Student s from across Alabama and the USA are invit ed, as well as international students. – The camps begin at 9am and end at 4pm each day of the week. Students will be given an hour lunch break with planned social events. – Registration deadline: April 27, 2012 (seati ng restricted to 25 student s; limited number of seats reserved for teachers interested in camps). 2012 High School Camp Topics – Week 1 – July 16: Intro to Programming with Java – Week 2 – July 23: Roboti cs Programming – Week 3 – July 30: Smart phone Programming (Androi d) Pre-requisites: Students who do not have a background in programming with Java must participate in Week 1 before attending Weeks 2 or 3.
