1.20pm The lecturer of Science Computer, Mr. Syed Nasir
instructed us, students from tutorial groups of CP3T17
and CP3T18 to set up a network between our
computers. There will be only 4 computers connected
to the access point through wire. However, those
particular computers must install by Microsoft Windows
7 Premium to become the administrator of the
networking. In the other hands, the rest of students will
connect their computers through wireless.
1.30pm one of us, Noor Saadiah was asked to count the
amount of computers along with their operating
system. All of the computers were recorded and
classified into different examples of operating system in
which consist of Microsoft Windows 7 Starter, Microsoft
Windows 7 Premium, Microsoft Windows 7 Home Basic,
Microsoft Windows 7 Professionals and Microsoft
Windows 8. In the other hand, Kazmadi will be the one
who in charged to record the whole process of
networking.
1.33pm after decided which computers going to be the
selected four, they started to arrange the computers in
a row and connect the computers to the access point
by using wire.

1.35pm some of the students tried to help them by referring to
networking tutorial videos that uploaded by other users
in YouTube from the Internet. While most of us still paid
attention to the networking between the four
computers since those computers must be connected
first.

1.40pm we tried to form a network between all of the
computers as fast as we can but it seems didn’t working
at all. The condition in the computer lab became
increasingly hot. There were 33 computers that need to
be connected to each other and we still can’t figure it
out on how to make those 4 computers to be
connected to each other first.

1.45pm Mr. Syed Nasir told us to make sure that the wires that
connect the access point to the computers must be
arranged neatly. All of us started to discuss on how to
make proper wires arrangement. Afterward, we tried to
arrange it properly and on the same time, retry to form
network between the computers.

1.48pm as the time passed, it still didn’t show any networking
between the computers. We were totally in a very
stressful condition. Most of us had given up on it and
only a few of them stood in front of the computers to
figure out other ways.
2.00pm half an hour had passed and still we were not done yet
with the networking. After that, our lecturer began to
speak and state that to form a network; all of the
computers cannot be connected in the same time. It
must be done by connected one computer in a time so
that the networking can be done slowly and spread
widely.

2.07pm finally, one of us managed to create a network
connection between two computers. First of all, we
need to connect to Wi-Fi connection named Default.
After that, find HomeGroup settings in Control Panel.
Next, connect to a network that already created by
the administrator and type in the password for the
connection, which was sQ9XY4TO3s.
2.10pm After 3 minutes, the third computer was connected to
the network. But still we were having some troubleshoot
problems at the fourth computer. After several times we
fixed it, finally we realised that the operating system of
the computer was Microsoft Windows 7 Home Basic.
We’d been replaced the fourth computers with many
other computers until we managed to find the suitable
one.

2.21pm we finally found the suitable computer that can
replace the fourth computer. Then, we moved on to
computers that are not connected to the access point
physically, in which known as wireless connection.
2.27pm after several minutes, 7 computers were connected.
However, due to some reasons, there also had failure in
connecting some of the computers to the network. The
reasons for the failure were:
Weak radio signal of the access point due to
some barriers that prevent the signal to arrive
computers that had further distance from the
access point.
All of the computers tried to connect to the
network in the same time. Furthermore, the
network was still in unstable condition and unable
to connect to several computers at the same
time.

Figure 6: Currently in the process of connecting others computers through wireless
2.35pm As a result, from 33 computers, there was only 11
computers connected to the network, which means 22
computers were facing some troubleshoot problems. It
is because:
The operating system of10 out of 22 computers
was Microsoft Windows 8. For Windows 8 to be
worked on the network, it must become the
administrator of the network.
The rest of the computers were having different
Microsoft Windows 7 versions.
2.41pm the class was almost over. The lecturer asked some of
the students to stand in front of the class to explain
briefly about the failure that occurred. One of the tasks
that the lecturer asked to find is the reason for Microsoft
Windows 7 Starter cannot become an administrator.
It is because Microsoft Windows 7 Starter belongs to
Domain Network. Domain is different from workgroup.
Computers on home networks are usually part of a

workgroup, while computers on workplace networks
are usually part of a domain. In a domain:
One or more computers are servers. Network
administrators use servers to control the security
and permissions for all computers on the domain.
This makes it easy to make changes because the
changes are automatically made to all
computers.
If a person has a user account on the domain, he
can log on to any computer on the domain
without needing an account on that computer.
Therefore, it is dangerous for Microsoft Windows 7
Starter to become administrator because the
computer can be controlled by another computer.
In other words, people can access your computer
without your permission as long as they have a user
account on the domain.

that unable to join the network

2.45pm one computer had failed to join the network. Now, the
number of computers that connected to the network
had been decreasing to 10 computers only.
2.50pm to prove that the networking between the 10
computers was working; we tried to share files to the
other computers. Even though we had tried for several
times but still we were unable to share it and seem that
we had failed to complete the task given.
By and large, to set up a computer network, it is
important for us to have a systematic networking
process in order to join a computer to other computers
so that we can share information, pictures, audio and
videos among the home group.
Moreover, for an access point to be able spread a
wider radio signals so that the computers can connect
to it, it must be placed on a higher position. For the
computers that connected to it through wires, the wires
must be arranged neatly.
Furthermore, after the networking is succeed, only one
computer can be connected at once so that the
network can be spread steadily and the connection
won’t having troubleshoot problems.
Last but not least, for the networking to be worked on
Microsoft Windows 8, it must become the administrator
so that other computers with operating system of
Microsoft Windows 8 can join the network. Other
computers with different example of operating system
such as Microsoft Windows 7 also can join the network.
