The Work…
• Pediatricians are very important doctors.
•They work with children of all ages, from infants to adolescents.
•They have to make sure that the child is growing correctly and doesn’t have major diseases.
Where Do They Work?
•Pediatricians work in community level offices and clinics.
•People and young children come into your office all the time, so you have to be easy going and patient.
•They not only work with children, but co-workers, nurses, as well. You would need to be a people person and get along with everybody.
Working Conditions
• You are in an office building long hours.
•You never can tell what hours you will work, so you always need to be prepared.
•This job may not be suitable for someone raising a family. Unpredictable hours make it hard to plan for your kids.
Pediatricians Training
School:
•4 years of undergraduate school
•4 years of medical school
•3-8 years of training depending on your specialty
* Some special colleges offer programs that last 6 years instead of 8.
Possibilities of Higher Positions
* Moving to a higher position is timely because physician training takes a long time.
* Depends on how many years you went to school and how long you’ve been working
Levels of Pediatricians
1)Resident in Pediatricians
2)Pediatrians- completion of medical licensing exam, 3 years RD
3)Established pediatricians- many years of a solid reputation and lots of faithful patients
Pediatricians Earnings
*When you start you can expect to earn $35,000- $50,000 per year
*In 10 years, about $135,000!
Future Prospects
*The profession is growing faster than average.
*There will be a demand for bigger hospitals; and that
means…more doctors!!! : )

*They really have to know their stuff.
*They have to write prescriptions all the time.
*They really have to be in touch with all the medical terminology.

Pediatricians must have a passion for what they do.
I want to be a pediatrician because I love to be around kids, and maybe I could help figure out what is wrong with them so they can live a long and healthy life.
