Early Computers• Abacus: The Abacus was used by merchants

and traders to calculate and is used in many places around the world for hundreds of years

• The Pascaline: A calculator that can add and carry numbers that was used by people since the 1600

• Charles Babbage’s Difference Engine, and Analytical Engine: It was the first automatic computing machine that could do any possible math formula

• Herman Hollerith: He was famous for doing a census and making a tabulating machine

First Generation• Difference between early and first generation computers

is first generation computers use electricity

Page 4: Computer History BY:KALEB HUI. Early Computers Abacus: The Abacus was used by merchants and traders to calculate and is used in many places around the.

First Generation Computers• Colossus: It was the first programmable

computer and it was also the first digital computer

• ENIAC: It was a computer that could solve large and hard math problems that the other computers could not solve

• EDVAC: It used binary instead of decimals and stored programs

• UNIVAC: It could use alphabetical and numerical characters

Second Generation• The difference between first generation and second

generation computers is that there are vacuum tubes installed in them and also the computers are smaller

Third Generation• The difference between third generation computers and

second generations is third generation computers replaced transistors with IC (integrator circuits)

Page 7: Computer History BY:KALEB HUI. Early Computers Abacus: The Abacus was used by merchants and traders to calculate and is used in many places around the.

Forth Generation• Fourth Generation computers use microprossors based

systems, they are smaller than the Third generations computers and als0 they are the also the cheapest generation of computers.

Forth Generation Computers• Altair 8800: It was the first personal computer and it was

the first kit that had all the supplies you needed to make this computer because before you had to go to stores and buy the supplies.

• Apple I and Apple II: The Apple I was a handmade wood key board made by Steve Jobs and Steve Woziak and the Apple II was a improved Apple II made because of the success Jobs and Woziak had got from making the Apple I

• Macintosh: The Macintosh used pictures and icons instead of using words

• IBMPC: The IBMPC is not as good as other PCs at that time and using floppy disks was optional

Fifth Generation• The computers will have artificial intelligence and also

have super large scale integrated chips.

Fifth Generation Computers• Ipod, Ipad, Iphone: These are all very similar devices. They

all are from the company called Apple and use a programming called IOS.

• Android Phones: Android phones always backs up your information, contacts, pictures, etc. by making you sign in your google account so information wont be lost.

• Google glasses: Google glasses are glasses that are like phones but doesn’t need to touch your hands. It will listen to the commands you tell it such as take pictures, search something on google, etc.

• Apple Watch: The Apple Watch has a entire computer chip compacted into a size other the wrist. It has apps just like the phone and uses blue tooth that is connected with the Iphone.
