Pixel Art

Pixel Art is a form of digital art that is created through rastergraphics software. This was a popular graphic style for older computer games and mobile games.

Also known as a Bitmap graphic, pixel art is constructed of a collection of many coloured dots. This kind of graphic can restrict detail and resizing can blur the definition of the art.

Pixel Art

The beauty of pixel art is the kind of crisp image you can create and is perfect for creating an isometric viewpoint which refers to some form of parallel where the viewpoint is slightly rotated to show other sides of the game environment .This is a great way of giving a 3D effect and is used in the massively popular PC game Minecraft.

Concept Art

Concept art is a subset of illustration and is supposed to represent an idea for a character, object or environment from various angles and in various ways.

Concept art is essentially the blueprint that allows other artists working on the same project to continue on and have a clear visual of how these game assets are going to turn out in the final product.

Concept Art

Concept art is also an incredibly important way of communicating an idea clearly and this is a key factor if a game project will or will not get the funding they need to continue through the creating process.

Texture Art

Texture art in the film, television and the game media is when a texture mapping which is mainly in the form of 2D is overlaid onto a polygon mesh to create a realistic 3D model.

This kind of graphic art is used to define the surface quality of a 3D model. Most of the time these textures are made from scratch but textures can also be photograph and apply them to the appropriate model. Adding a variety of textures is also important.

BackgroundArt

The background or ‘environment’ of a video game can change massively from each game and game genres. For example some games like platformers will have a background that for the main part is just aesthetical whereas an open sandbox game will have a lot more interactive environment.

2D backgrounds might scroll across the screen as the player moves along to portray a changing environment.

Print Media

Art

The use of printed media in video games is very important as it is used for the box art of the game (the art on the cover of the game case), posters and other forms of advertisement.

Art in this form of media usually portrays artwork far higher than the capabilities of the actual videogame as it is supposed to hype potential customers for its release. Box art can vary depending on the regional release.

Print Media

Art

Posters and advertisements for video games usually have dynamic and vibrant art that is really supposed to capture the essence of the game it is marketing.

Now with more and more video games being distributed this kind of printed artwork is more essential than ever for the audience to get a capture of the game the developers want them to play.
