BSN Co-Curricular Activities Programme

Our students are encouraged to participate in a

wide range of clubs and activities through our

comprehensive after school programme. These

activities extend the learning that happens within

the school day and build key competencies such

as teamwork, creativity, and self-awareness.

The Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme

provides students with the opportunity to form

new friendships outside their own year group or

campus.

Connection: Junior to Senior School The CCA programme aims to develop the

whole student throughout their time at the

BSN. Junior School activities and clubs focus on

engagement and skill development and students

are encouraged to try a wide range of activities.

At Senior School, clubs and activities build on

the foundations established in Junior School and

students pursue more fully areas of interest and

expertise, with some activities requiring weekend

commitment.

Sign UpSign up occurs through the Co-Curricular section,

on the BSN Gateway. You can also read about

the wide range of activities in this section. Most

activities require a termly sign up, each individual

campus has a sign up deadline and once

registered you will receive a confirmation email

from the school office. Student’s who miss out

on a club are placed on the waiting list.

CostThere is a cost associated with the Mother

Tongue Language Programme, Instrumental

Music lessons and Specialist clubs delivered

by an external instructor such as Judo,

Playball and Yoga. Some sports based

clubs and activities incur a membership fee.

The overall programme is broken into

three blocks that mirror the school terms and also

take into account the seasons.

Each block runs for at least 8 weeks across a

term - the exact length depending on the activity

and the length of the term.

Global CitizensConnecting students to their local and global

community is the focus of these clubs. Students

look at current issues both locally and globally

and design their own project aimed to improve

their community or the community of others.

Students explore ideas such as sustainability, the

environment, litter, conservation, diversity and

poverty.

An example of successful recent projects are the

establishment of an Eco-Garden at Senior School

and the Happy Green World Eco Club for Junior

School students.

Music & Performing ArtsWe have a wide range of choirs,

ensembles and bands that provide performance

platforms both within and outside of the school

for students. In addition, students can join drama

and dance clubs and participate in school plays.

Instrumental Music Lessons Research indicates that learning an

instrument at a young age gives the brain a

boost that lasts well into adult life, in addition,

students develop self-discipline and a sense of

achievement through learning an instrument. At

the BSN, we offer a comprehensive instrumental

programme with experienced, qualified teachers.

Read more about this programme or register for

lessons on the Music & Performing Arts page

under the Co-Curricular tab on Gateway.

imagination and self-expression through activities

as varied as cooking, woodwork, painting and

ceramics.

Academic ClubsAcademic clubs aim build on and enrich

the learning that happens in the classroom.

Students are encouraged to explore areas of

interest or to extend their understanding of a

certain area.

Chess Club, Coding, Digital Detectives and

Debating are just some examples of academic

clubs available to students.

Mother Tongue Language ClassesAs an Internationally British school,

we value the diversity of our community and

understand the importance of supporting

language learning both inside and outside the

curriculum. The BSN Mother Tongue Programme

offers a way of further progressing your child’s

language development.

The programme consists of a range of Mother

Tongue Classes held after school - the programme

is open to native or near-native speakers from

Year 1 to 6 from all BSN Junior School campuses.

Mother Tongue classes are for children who have

already had a substantial amount of exposure

to a language, this could be through attending

school in another country or using it daily with

family members.
