John Batman Publicity.

Since its development, from generation to

generation, a new company identity emerged.

In the new millennia, the company underwent a

re-image to become John Batman Group and

although the company expanded; today it retains

a niche team of around thirty dedicated staff

and tradespeople who understand the need for

developing the perfect hotel compendium.

covers of the compendiums is sourced and

imported mainly from Europe, to ensure the latest

styles, technology and trends are made readily

Along with the compendium cover material, each

compendium also features quality inner lining,

sourced locally within Australia, to match the

compendium and brand standards.

Materials

At John Batman Group, only the finest quality

materials in the production of its compendiums are

used. The board used for the compendium covers

is constructed of thick Australian boxboard.

Whilst some binder manufacturers argue that

thinner boxboard can be used, at John Batman

Group, the company only uses Australian made

board, which is thicker than the industry standard.

This extends the life of compendiums and prevents

covers from warping.

Ring mechanism

John Batman Group only uses the highest quality

Bensons rings within its compendiums. Benson

manufacturers the finest quality ring materials in

the world.

The ring mechanisms provided are available in

various lengths, capacities and ring designs.

If clients require gold plated or coloured

mechanisms, John Batman Group also offers

plating and powder coating services.

The ring mechanism options available are:

‘D’ rings – which are mounted on the back cover

of the binder with the vertical side of the ‘D’ facing

away from the spine. The advantage of the ‘D’

is that all the pages sit neatly when the folder

is opened. Because the weight of the pages is

not pulling against the open section of the ring,

they are regarded as being stronger and are the

most popular style of mechanism used within the

compendiums.

‘R’ rings – which are fixed to the spine of a binder.

They are also referred to as ‘O’ rings or ‘round’

rings and are not as commonly used in hotel

compendiums as the ‘D’ rings.

Embossing

Compendiums can be embossed with the

clients’ hotel logo and/or a standard print from

John Batman Group’s many standard embossing

options. The embossing can be blind embossed

or ‘debossed’ (where there is no colour added as

shown on this compendium sample) or embossed

in colour – gold, silver, black or white (other colours

available upon request).

The embossing process is very different to the

screen printing process.

Other unusual ways of producing images or text

on compendiums include screen printing, pad

printing, etching, and offset printing. The team at

John Batman Group has knowledge of all these

processes and will help its clients identify which

method is best, by taking into consideration

climate, guest type, logo issues and so forth.
