Introduction

Carbon and Kevlar is the most composite material using in the aircraft industry because of its strength comparing to its weight.

Test carbon and Kevlar specimen to show how it react under presser.

Aims and objectives.

Determine the deflection of carbon and Kevlar.

Compare the strength between carbon and Kevlar.

Compare and find out the link between adding more layers and the stiffness we can get in the specimen.

Find the maximum pressures V12 head a tank can take and the factor of safety.

Using of carbon and Kevlar.

Making the specimen.

Using 8 layers mold to to create the specimen on.

Three layers of carbon and other three of Kevlar.

The three layers all in 0° direction.

Heat it up in a vacuum ovine for two hours.

Stick strain gages on it to measure the deflection later

Test the specimen.

Connect the strain gages to electronic board.

Connect the board the the computer.

Reset the sensors.

Adding loads, 0.5Kg a time till 14Kg.

Conclusion

Result shows the maximum deflection at channels one and two, and minimum deflection in channels seven and eight.

The results shows that channel two has larger effect than channel one, and that is because channel one is 10mm higher than channel two. So its more stiffness, and by taking average of the percentage deferent between channel one and two worked to be 61.11%. Witch means for every 10mm more carbon the stiffness will increase by 67.22% and for Kevlar about 55.01%.

Conclusion

Channel three placed on the side where is a little bump, that will gave it more strength, and stronger than channel four with placed on the opposed direction.

The result when the loads are 14Kg shows 297.3e for carbon and 870e for Kevlar at channel one, which gave us 34.17% more stiffness for the carbon. And about the same for channel two.

Further work

Mix carbon and Kevlar in one specimen.

More testing in more than 0 direction.

But the strain gauges in different directions.
