TECHNOLOGY
Our World patents allow us to transform raw cereal commodities into a long line of healthy functional food ingredients that provide multiple health
benefits. The technology was invented after many years of research and development, leading to a fine-tuned manufacturing process that began as
a concept, then to lab bench work, on to pilot scale and finally adopted to a commercial scale.
Our lead technology is to transform the raw cereal commodities into a line of health functional food ingredients that provide multiple health
effects. The technology is invented after many years of research and development work leading to a fine-tuning a manufacturing process from a
concept level to lab bench work to pilot scale and finally to commercial scale. The concept behind the technology was to produce a high quality
health ingredient using agriculture materials, while keeping the “natural” status of the finished product. That was achieved by a systematic
approach of using natural food-grade non-GMO enzymes and processing aids.
Our lead product is Isomaltooligosaccharide or IMO, which is made from different starches. Starch can be processed from a variety of cereal
sources, e.g., corn, tapioca, potato, wheat etc. A highly controlled enzyme catalysis process was researched to break down and convert the long
structure of starch molecules into a defined set of short glucose chains mixture. Another patented process was to modify the specific bonding or
linkages present between the glucose units of starch molecules. Since short chains of starch molecules can easily be hydrolyzed by our
gastrointestinal enzymes, it was necessary to convert glyosidic bonding into a more digestion- resistant form which was achieved by a specific
enzymatic reaction. In other words, the hydrolysable α(1,4) linkage present between the glucose units were converted into α(1,6) linkage, which
has high resistance towards the hydrolysis by intestinal α-amylase enzymes.
The novel manufacturing process resulted into a product that is not only digestion-resistant in the human, but also provides multiple health
benefits such as a low-calorie health sweetener, a prebiotic effect and a soluble dietary fiber effect. Animal studies as well as human clinical studies
confirmed those health benefits. Moreover, this innovative novel product has already got regulatory approval from FDA, Health Canada and
European EFSA to market in the respective countries.
MATCHMAKING OBJECTIVES
Our lead product, VitaFiber-IMO, recently received approval from the European regulatory authority, EFSA, to market this product in European
countries. However, that approval is only pertaining to the safety of the product and for a safe human consumption but not for any health-related
claims yet. Without having any health claim approved, it will not be possible to successfully market our product in European countries. In our
earlier communications with EFSA, we have been advised that further human clinical data must be obtained in order to apply for any health claim.
VitaFiber-IMO is presently approved and marketed as a source of dietary fiber by FDA as well as by Health Canada in North America. However, in
order to get a similar health claim approval by EFSA for European market, a human clinical study project is planned in collaboration with a German
company (a CRO). This is critical since the product is being developed for the European market, and therefore, a human study with European
subjects would greatly facilitative our application for a health claims with EFSA. The planned human clinical study will be conducted in collaboration
with a selected German CRO. BioNeutra would provide the investigational product along with all the scientific and technical information as well as
assist in developing the study protocol. Whereas German CRO partner shall conduct the actual human study, analyze the samples and submit the
study’s results in the final report, which would be the basis for preparing and filing our health claim dossier to European regulatory agency EFSA.
PREFERENCES/REQUIREMENTS FOR POTENTIAL EUROPEAN PARTNER(S)
The main objective for us is to establish the project with a European partner company/organization to confirm the potential health claim of our
novel health food ingredient, VitaFiber-IMO. In this respect, the important aspects we’re looking for in a partner company would be:
a) A well-established CRO (human clinical research organization) who had experience in human clinical studies particularly in the area of nutrition
science and/or gastrointestinal related projects.
b) A research organization who could undertake a human clinical study under a standard protocol and have expertise in the area functional food
ingredient/supplements or have done project in human nutrition or gastrointestinal related.
c) A knowledge/experience with the EFSA regulations would be greatly facilitative.
BENEFITS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S)
a) BioNeutra will provide an opportunity for the partner to undertake a collaborative research project of an already approved novel food ingredient
that has strong potential to market in the EU countries.
b) Once potential health claims are approved, a collaborative business approach will be developed in order to market the product in EU countries.
c) Future collaborative projects will be planned, with the partner company thus providing further opportunities of mutual work.
d) We believe, that with our world patents and expertise in these areas, we are well positioned to work with our partners, in order to bring new
products to the health conscience people of Europe.

Bow Valley Innovations Inc. Technology: Metal Organic Framework (Nanotechnology)
Website: www.bowvalleyinnovations.com
COMPANY
Bow Valley innovations Inc. (“BVI”) is a private company, incorporated in Alberta, Canada, led by a team of business Professionals. BVI holds the
exclusive license to commercialize CALF-20, which is designed to capture carbon from industrial gas emissions. BVI acquired CALF-20 MOF (Metal
Organic Framework) from Innovate Calgary which material was developed by the University of Calgary by Dr. George Shimizu, Professor of
Chemistry, Department of Chemistry and Associate Dean.
Our product "CALF-20" is a powdered substance which can capture CO2. By using an enclosed vessel, if a negative pressure is applied at room
temperature to the CALF-20 MOF (Metal Organic Framework) our early tests show that CO2 can be released. This eliminates the need for heating
and cooling of the material. Presently, bench testing is underway using CALF-20 under conditions replicating the exhaust gases being released from
a flue of a coal generated power plant.
TECHNOLOGY
CALF-20 is a metal-organic framework (MOF) designed to capture CO2 from emission gases. The key characteristics which set CALF-20 apart from
other competitive materials is, first, its ability to capture CO2 in the presence of water, specifically humid exhaust emissions from fuels such as coal,
natural gas and oil. Secondly, the CALF-20 structure maintains its integrity under industrial conditions of CO2 capture and regeneration. Thirdly, a
simple negative vacuum is all that's needed to remove the CO2 from CALF-20. The fourth characteristic is BVI’s ability to set the technology apart
From current solution for carbon capture: Amine Scrubber Technology. BVI will leverage these critical competitive advantages to build the best
class, high growth Carbon Capture Solutions business.
MATCHMAKING OBJECTIVES
1) BVI has entered a Material Transfer Agreement with a Chemical company and testing is under “flue gas conditions” are underway.
2) Industrial partners have the opportunity to focus on the research to tailor their technologies for their specific needs.
3) Opportunities to assist BVI in funding to the ramping up and commercialization of CALF-20 along with the engineering and production of a
delivery system.

HJC Consulting Inc. (HJCC) and Wilson Analytical Services Inc. Technology: Microfluidics & analytical chemistry (HJCC); oilfield sample analysis,
precision optical detection systems and ruggedised instrumentation
Websites: www.hjcconsulting.ca (HJCC) and www.wilsonanalytical.com (WA)
COMPANY
HJC Consulting (HJCC) and Wilson Analytical (WA) will act as joint applicants.
HJCC provides technical and business consulting in the areas of analytical chemistry and microfluidic product development. In particular, HJCC
helps clients or partners to design a microfluidic analysis product and procedure that addresses the value proposition being pursued. HJCC also
ensures that microfluidic device manufacturability is enshrined early in the design phase, and can help with the design and prototyping of the
instrument that will operate the chip.
WA provides specialised chemical analysis services for a variety of clients in the oilfield, environmental and agricultural sectors. WA also sells
analysis instruments for spectroscopic determination of pipeline corrosion inhibitors and environmental tracers. Critical differentiators for WA are
its expertise in LED-based light sources and spectrometers, and its ability to design and build rugged, all-weather analytical instrumentation for
field use that provides analytical lab quality results.
TECHNOLOGY
HJC Consulting and Wilson Analytical are currently co-developing an oilfield analysis technology platform, with potential applications including
routine anion and/or cation analysis in process waters, analysis of polyacrylamides (PAM) in oilfield waters, analysis of sulphur/sulphate/sulphide in
headspace gases. Many of these applications will use capillary electrophoresis as the front-end separations technology as well as one of Wilson
Analytical’s detector technologies that is launched or under development for spectrofluorometric analysis.
For the GCCIR project, HJCC and WA are targeting a new technology platform based on microfluidics. We intend to develop an instrument with a
microfluidic analysis cartridge; several application candidates and corresponding analytical technologies are being considered. Though presently at
the concept phase, the technology will be able to benefit from HJCC’s extensive microfluidics product development experience, and from WA’s
existing technology suite and sample analysis expertise once an application and analytical approach are chosen.
MATCHMAKING OBJECTIVES
HJCC already has an existing early stage relationship with a microfluidics chip manufacturer.
An important objective is to look for German applications developers who need a technology development team to work with. This would be a
large or small company that already has a product concept with a well-defined business case, but that is seeking/open to having outside
collaborators with demonstrated relevant capabilities help them develop their product from concept into reality. This applications developer will
preferably want the collaborators (us) to become their chip and instrument OEMs when the product is launched under their name; licencing from
HJCC, WA and MFCS can also be considered.
PREFERENCES/REQUIREMENTS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S)
As described above, our microfluidics partner must be able to demonstrate both prototyping and manufacturing capability. They must have an
ability to work with a variety of substrate materials, embed electrodes, have robust bonding and post-processing technology, and also preferably
have a pre-existing suite of ‘real world’ interface technology for their chips, e.g. filters, reagent blister packs, capillary connectors, etc. A suite of
on-chip functionality modules would be an asset, e.g. samplers, diluters, mixers, etc.
Our German application developer must be in possession of a winning product concept, and want to champion it. A winning product concept is
one that has a compelling business case with:
• a product concept with an obvious and compelling value proposition for the end-customer;
• a defined & validated market opportunity; and
• a developed distribution channel through its/its partner’s existing business.
We are looking for applications developers. Ideally, the developer has ideas/needs for analysis products that fit nicely within our capabilities. We
would be happy to speak to those with fully developed (rare, as you point out) or partially developed (more common) business plans for a product;
we would be happy to brainstorm with them to fill in the gaps and imagine how the technology could be tailored to the product's needs to make
for a compelling value proposition.
BENEFITS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S)
HJCC brings several key abilities to the proposed partnership. Firstly, it brings the ability to design a microfluidic device that will meet the technical
requirements for an analysis product. Secondly, it will iteratively design the device to be manufacturable with the German microfabrication
partner's capabilities, and to be compatible with the companion instrument required for the device's operation. Thirdly, it will iteratively co-design
the instrument and evaluate the chip and instrument together with WA and their German partner.
WA also brings several key abilities to the partnership. Firstly, it brings expertise in designing the electronics, detection optics (light sources and
spectrometers) and mechanical components required as components in a rugged, accurate field instrument. Secondly, it will work with HJCC and
their German microfabrication partner to ensure the microfluidic devices have appropriate 'real world' interfaces with the instrument. Thirdly, it
will iteratively co-design the instrument and evaluate the chip and instrument together with HJCC and their German microfabrication and
application developer partners.
Nanalysis Corp Technology: Scientific instrumentation design and manufacture (Clean technology)
Website: www.nanalysis.com
COMPANY
Nanalysis designs and builds class leading benchtop NMR spectrometers. Our corporate strengths are in the production of highly homogenous (1
part in 108), very strong (≥ 1.4T) magnets, NMR specific radio frequency hardware, and operating software. We have developed a strong market
presence in the field of academic training, using our instrument to make available early career training in a significant analytical method, by
building a suite of applications and experiments specific to the academic market.
We are now building out our product line with a range of new instruments including one that has been cost reduced for better academic training
market adoption, and a second instrument that is much more fully featured to serve the research communities. We are also developing a higher
field instrument that will not be matched by our competition in the short term and will allow us to consolidate our market dominance in the
benchtop NMR market.
TECHNOLOGY
Nanalysis has a range of products that serves our specific markets. These products have additional capabilities that can be used to open additional
market space. Most of the adaptations can be classified as applications that use the analytical power of the instrument to solve a very specific
problem in industry. An example is characterization of polymers or classification of food oils to detect food fraud.
We have begun to “hyphenate” our spectrometer with other techniques and processes to expand the utility of the device. One example of this is a
project that we are partnering with an institute in Germany to use the NMR spectrometer as a detector in a microreactor lab plant. In this
application the spectrometer was used to monitor the flowing fluorochemical reaction mixture and in future could be used to feedback and
autonomously control the system in limited lab scale production. This system measures 19F spectra and is isothermal and isocratic.
We are looking to expand the flow NMR system capabilities to include multinuclear detection, external lock, variable temperature and limited
gradient elution capability. The multinuclear detection, external lock and gradient elution are in prototype development and variable temperature
capability is in proof of concept.
A second major initiative for our company is to build software driven solutions that enable non-experts to use the device in industrial situations like
factory floors, loading docks, and refineries. The software systems are either library driven, spectral recognition tools or chemometric pattern
recognition utilities. Both systems are in the prototype development stage.
MATCHMAKING OBJECTIVES
Our proposed project for this intake of applications concerns the development of a thermal isolation system for our current NMReady product.
The project will create a thermal jacket that will fit into a newly designed, larger central diameter magnet. The thermal jacket will be comprised of
either a vacuum dewar, a series of super insulation layers or a combination of the two. We will also need to invent a new method of connecting
the internal antenna coil to the rf system that will allow us to transmit signals through the thermal isolation barrier. Finally, we will need to design
and build a new magnet, based upon our existing design that provides sufficient space for the thermal isolation system.
PREFERENCES/REQUIREMENTS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S)
We would like find a partner with experience in the creation of miniaturized thermal isolation systems, a scientific glass blower or advanced
materials specialist. We would also like to find an electronics expert with inductive coupling experience.
We are also interested to identify potential software developers for our two software projects as well as application development specialists with
industrial analytical experience. We need folks who can write / implement signal processing and data abstraction code. We need mathematical
modelling, and folks who can write some expert system type of logic for reporting complex results simply. We also may need someone who can
write some UI / UX to present the expert system to the user.
BENEFITS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S)
We bring an opportunity to be a development partner and potential supplier to a company that is in a quickly expanding market with a product
that has instant uptake by a major global chemistry company at research sites around the world.

• History of developing next generation Measurement While Drilling (MWD) equipment
• Experience, our key people have developed 6 MWD tool platforms over past 10 years for:
• Weatherford, Intrepid, Cathedral, Schlumberger (2 different platforms), XACT, EVO
• Evolution focuses on research, development, licencing, and knowledge transfer 70+ patent filings)
• Over $25 million spent on new product development since August 2011
The industry outlook can be broken down as follows:
• Yesterday
Market dominated by positive pulse “tensor” or “GE” style tools, poppet orifice, slow data rate, non-adaptable to changing drilling conditions,
downward curve on reliability
• Now
Producers are being challenged to find cost reductions from efficiencies and reduced downtime associated with unreliable drilling services such as
MWD, and look for more reliable EM or other telemetry options
• Tomorrow
Looking to enhance the drilling services by making use of automated and/or integrated services from surface to downhole, especially interested in
higher data rates
TECHNOLOGY
Evolution Engineering has been working with Inpetro Energy (a technology partner) to develop a next generation Measurement While Drilling
(MWD) tool for use in land based oil and gas (O&G) exploration. This technology is currently commercially available exclusively through Inpetro’s
operational division distribution arm, and has quickly gained acceptance with some of the largest O&G operators across North America. Evolution
Engineering believes, that to develop a ground breaking technology portfolio, you have to focus on the technology development itself – entirely. As
such, Evolution has partnered with key manufacturing and distribution teams to deploy our ground-breaking products to the world.
EVO ONE has broken several boundaries but at the heart of the development was creating a next generation industry leading MWD technology
focused on high Reliability. To change the industries current MWD market, we had to rely on Innovations that are both simple and efficient in
design, assembly, use, and service. The industry is very much restricted to legacy constrained technology, or the “wet noodle” syndrome that all
current MWD probes seem to suffer from. When a company can start fresh, and is free of limitations in design – great leaps can be made as focus
can be placed on how to address the issues from the ground up, rather than how to address the issues within the confinements of legacy based
technology. With the mindset of “nothing is untouchable”, we opened Pandora’s box and made sweeping evolutionary changes. Drawing on the
teams extensive industry experience, known Service Quality and Reliability issues were identified; where leading offensive failures – including those
that we experienced repeatedly in our past, were designed out of the system. We also identified and addressed the human factor related issues
that arise with complex designs and products that do not take the end users’ needs into consideration. As such, our first product offering, EVO
ONE: Unified Telemetry, was born.
Operation of an MWD tool requires adaptation to multiple environments and changing drilling conditions. To do so, EVO ONE is fully automated to
make real-time smart decisions both downhole and through a closed loop uphole/downhole EM communication with the surface system. Decisions
are made in real-time based on changing drilling conditions so as to maximize signal to surface while maintaining data rates and decreasing battery
consumption, or by altering data rates to ensure signal is maintained – with two fully configurable telemetries downhole EVO ONE has the ability to
adapt, and the smarts downhole and uphole to know when and why.

MATCHMAKING OBJECTIVES
Evolution hopes to find a partner to develop a high temperature (150C or higher rated), high shock and vibration, rechargeable battery solution,
which will be used as an energy storage system in downhole oil and gas tools. The O&G sector needs a reliable, renewable, and rechargeable
energy storage solution to power the tools that can withstand the demanding conditions undergone while drilling. Without an energy storage
system, downhole power generation is not feasible. This forces the use of lithium thionyl chloride battery technology as a power source. The use of
Lithium batteries is less than optimal as it poses a landfill waste concern, and both a health and safety risk. The batteries can become unstable
under high temperature and extreme shock conditions, both of which are present in downhole environments. Additionally, these batteries are only
usable once before requiring replacement. These examples show the financial and environment benefits of moving away from the use of lithium
battery technology, and towards a more sustainable power source.
PREFERENCES/REQUIREMENTS FOR POTENTIAL EUROPEAN PARTNER(S)
Expertise in the following areas would be preferred:
• Rechargeable cell design
• Lithium-sulphur, lithium-ion, or other such cell design
• Nanotechnology – working with graphene, carbon nanotubes or similar
• Development of high reliability/mission critical systems
• Quick to market projects
• Internal manufacturing capabilities, or proven third party manufacturing partners
BENEFITS FOR POTENTIAL EUROPEAN PARTNER(S)
Evolution Engineering would enable our European partner’s entry into the downhole market with a technology that does not currently exist in its
market space. Evolution Engineering and its clients have an immediate need for a renewable and rechargeable energy storage solution to replace
the current utilization of a non-renewable resource. Our goal is to cut this utilization down to zero in our market by developing a new technology to
replace the current one. Our close business relationships with both the operator and service provider sides of the industry give us immediate
access to real life testing environments, and complete transparency for data related to super capacitor product improvements.
Furthermore, Evolution Engineering and its technology partners have skill-sets in high temperature and high shock mechanical structure designs,
and could therefore be able to provide great insight into these areas for development of a rechargeable cell design.

HEALTH TECHNOLOGY
ATS Venture Inc. Technology: Health Tech
Website: www.atsventures.com
COMPANY
ATS venture inc is an Innovation Management Company. It focuses exclusively on the development of (interventional) medical devices. The
development of such devices is generally quicker and less capital intensive as for instance the development of diagnostic tools or laboratory
equipment. For this reasons, the potential achievable profits are also lower and hence, it is often also ignored from Venture Capital funding as the
opportunities are often deemed to be too small.
This often leaves the inventors of such devices, usually clinicians and academics, in a funding gap, when institutional grants such as university
grants reach their limits. Creating their own start-up and medical device company at that stage is often not an option due to the significant financial
requirements and necessary commercial expertise, in order to turn a novel concept into a proven technology.
On the other hand, the globally operating medical device companies focus mainly on international distribution and sales with only limited in-house
R&D activities. The big players usually grow the product portfolio with mergers and acquisitions. However, in order for their risk management, they
rarely are interested in early stage ideas but prefer proven technologies.
ATS ventures positions itself in this gap by acquiring ideas at this early stage when the true innovation and commercialization starts. ATS sees its
main advantages in both, the niche position in the market as well as the skills brought together by its founders.
TECHNOLOGY Corneal transplants are the treatment of choice for many pathological eye diseases or trauma. However, the very invasive full thickness transplant
is often not required and a partial transplant will suffice, where either the inner or outer layer of the cornea remains in situ. Such a partial
transplant has many advantages, being less invasive, resulting in lower tissue rejection rates and faster recovery times for the patient.
The developed device focuses on the more challenging but superior Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) procedure, the replacement of the
outer layers of the cornea. Currently manually performed, it demands meticulous and careful attention due to the precision required to save the
thin endothelial-descemet layer (about 15 μm thick). It is extremely difficult to manually cut into the cornea to the right depth and remove the
stroma while preserving this layer. If compromised, the DALK procedure must be abandoned falling back onto the more invasive Penetrating
Keratoplasty technique. Surgeons must be skilled and experienced in the technique for successful outcomes, but in practice, failure rates
performing the DALK procedure remain high. For the inexperienced surgeon, this surgery may be lengthy (and hence not fully covered by the
healthcare provider) with a high probability of damage to the remaining endothelium. For this reason, many surgeons resist adopting the
procedure despite the advantages to the patient.
The development is currently past its conceptualization stage. It will be based on a vacuum trephine, creating a rigid connection between device
and eye and providing a datum to work from. Due to standard pre-surgical measurements the corneal thickness is known and an attached
instrument can be controllably advanced to the desired depth, rather than by hand, greatly reducing the risk of piercing the cornea. Manual
inaccuracies are being avoided, greatly reducing the risk of complications and increasing the quality of the surgical outcome. The general approach
for this novel device is similar to the manual procedure, which means it will remain familiar to the surgeon.
MATCHMAKING OBJECTIVES
ATS is an early stage development company. Our core capabilities are the understanding of early stage development of medical devices for the
highly regulated medical market and project management skills to build clinical prototypes and set-up clinical investigations. At that point we will
require business partners to take our clinically proven technologies, set-up volume production and provide global marketing.
A German partner has two major advantages for us. Germany provides one of the biggest med-tech markets in the world and offers additionally an
easy access to other European markets due to its central location. The European market for medical technologies covers about 1/3 of the world
market, following the United States closely in second place. A German partner is expected to bring first-hand experience with the European
markets and reimbursement nuances in its various countries.
Furthermore, Germany is known for its experience in precision (micro-) engineering, which will be very beneficial when setting up production in
order to keep production cost low in the light of the cost-sensitive niche market we are addressing. Traditionally, high-tech companies in Germany
have strong links to academia, enabling it to utilize novel, cutting-edge manufacturing methods as required.
With an appropriate German partner, it is ATS’ intention to apply for the Alberta-Germany Collaboration Fund to further strengthen such
partnership and collaborate in the commercialization of the novel DALK instrument as described above.
PREFERENCES/REQUIREMENTS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S)
We are currently looking for a business partner that meets one or all of the following requirements
• Has strong prototyping and manufacturing capabilities for precision (micro-) instruments for the medical market
• Has experience in producing ophthalmic instrumentation
• Can set up and run clinical trials for ophthalmic instruments
• Has strong marketing capacities for ophthalmic instruments (particularly for niche market opportunities)
• Can reach the global ophthalmic market for corneal transplant surgery
BENEFITS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S)
ATS has an experience in the early stage development of medical devices. Located in Calgary, Alberta, it taps into the local pool of med-tech
innovations, identifies and acquires promising ideas, and thus bridges the gap between (mostly) academia and the global markets. ATS does an
early market assessment and feasibility study and uses its own funds to drive the development forward to a clinically proven prototype. ATS takes
an idea/early concept and turns it into a proven and vetted prototype, ready for production set-up.
Elsius Biomedical Inc. Technology: Medical Devices
Website: www.elsius.com
COMPANY
Elsius Biomedical Inc. is an Alberta corporation dedicated to the development, production and commercialization of ECMO (Extra Corporeal
Membrane Oxygenation) systems. It has developed an integrated pump oxygenator called pCAS and a biocompatible coating called EBS, both
combined with its proprietary console make for the most advanced system on the market today.
The company has a very experienced management team headed by Mr. Alessandro Biglioli who is in his 14th startup venture. Elsius has the
possibility of becoming a world market leader in this niche of the respiratory/cardiovascular support field
TECHNOLOGY
Extracorporeal life support systems (ECLS), including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), are increasingly utilized to support patients
for whom other therapeutic options are limited. ECMO in particular is being used for longer durations reflecting the on-going short supply of donor
organs as well as their expanded uses in other therapies.
Elsius’ pCAS system is comprised of a series of cohesively designed components, specifically a compact integrated blood pump-oxygenator device, a
small touch-screen based control console, and other ancillary componentry. pCAS is intended for use as an improved cardiopulmonary bypass
system for acute and chronic uses such as Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). While marked improvements over what’s currently on
the market in terms of pumping ability, gas exchange capability and ease of use, the cornerstone of pCAS is an engineered bioactive surface (EBS)
designed specifically for the pCAS application. EBS incorporates technical innovations in the areas of bioactivity (several-fold higher than currently
available coatings), stability, reduced inflammatory response and a significantly lower cost of application. It is anticipated that these unique
features will allow lower levels of systemic anticoagulation and inflammatory response and thus result in fewer post-procedural complications such
as thrombosis, inflammation and bleeding. Other features of the pCAS system include a lightweight and compact control console that facilitates
transport and rapid deployment, an intuitive user interface, and integrated high-density batteries for portable operation.
Elsius has certified the EBS coating for safe human use and did extensive animal and lab tests on the pCAS system resulting in a product that it’s in a
pre-design freeze status. Once that is achieved it will be available for clinical trials and clinical regulatory approvals.
MATCHMAKING OBJECTIVES
Elsius is pursuing multiple objectives with this trip: We are looking for a technical partner to finish the development part of the device, both a
medical device manufacturer with RD capabilities on blood contacting cardiovascular devices and a developer/manufacturer of electronic medical
control systems (for our console).
We are also looking for a partner(s) to help design and manage the clinical trials of the system in Europe, usually those kind of organizations are
called CRO (clinical Research Organizations), we are open to innovative ones that want to develop a system to manage the trials and clinical data in
an innovative digital form.
PREFERENCES/REQUIREMENTS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S):
We would like an experienced CRO that is fully capable of designing with us the best clinical trials to certify CE the product and bring it to the
market in Europe. Critical will be the ability to create and maintain high quality clinical data documentation so to be able to use them in other
regulatory jurisdictions (like the US, Canada and/or Japan). We would like also to find a partner that can handle the clinical data generated in a
digital way that allows us to do sophisticated data analysis and can be ported to the normal sales operations.
We would like also a technical partner with experience in medical devices manufacturing and design, in particular someone with experience in
designing and producing accessories (connectors, cannuae, heat exchangers, bubble traps, etc.) for blood contacting cardiovascular devices.
Finally we would like someone with experience in designing and producing medical devices electronics controllers, experience in controllers for
cardiovascular and respiratory support applications would be preferred.
BENEFITS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S)
We can bring to the table a class III medical device in a pre-clinical phase of development, with all the relevant documentation regarding in vitro
and animal tests fully executed plus a management that has been through the medical device development process numerous times.
Usually the clinical trials of a Class III device are a way to forge partnerships with leading doctors, hospitals and institutions that last for years and
establish reputations in the relevant medical field. As for medical devices manufacturers it will be the occasion to widen their field of expertise and
participate in the development of a device in a field that is in strong expansion.

The benefits we offer are improved access and presence in the North American Emergency Management sector with some technology and testing
benefits. Dr Ramirez-Serrano continues his research work at the University of Calgary and the reasonably close test range at Foremost Centre for
Unmanned Vehicles is only one of its kind in Canada. Since many UAS in Germany are currently tested over the Baltic Sea we would like to explore
whether there is interest in testing in Alberta over open fields where electronics are less likely to be damaged.
Quantum Reversal Inc. Technology: Wireless technology involving innovative antenna and RF/system and antenna solutions Website: www.quantumreversal.com
COMPANY
Quantum Reversal (QR) is a high-tech start-up engaged in a development of innovative commercial solutions using wireless and antenna
technologies for use in Telecommunications, Aerospace, Life Science and various commercial applications. QR currently is working on high isolation
(100 dB isolation) non-switch Tx/Rx devices, wall imaging radars, and innovative antenna technologies for RF interference mitigation as well as
customer specific system developments. The founder, Dr. Waldemar Kunysz, has over 25 years of experience in the development of various
successful products. Dr. Kunysz has been also working in a high-tech start-up for the last 4 years in Silicon Valley, California, USA.
TECHNOLOGY
QR is currently working on the following projects:
1. GPS antenna and associated electronics to demonstrate the feasibility of creating narrow spatial nulls in otherwise omnidirectional
pattern that allows power reduction of received interfering signals without significant impact of SNR of received GPS signals. The
proposed GPS antenna is based on concepts developed in the Waldemar Kunysz PhD thesis with the University of Calgary. The nulls are
created in antenna radiation pattern, hence preventing the RF front end from saturation.
2. RF circuit to provide high isolation between transmitter and receiver, ideally using a common antenna. This would allow for simultaneous
operation at the same frequency or band instead of using multi-frequency operation, thus preserving amount of bandwidth required for
a given communication. No RF switching would be required (between Tx/Rx operation) , however two antennas might be required if the
antenna reflection coefficient is not of the same order as the RF circuit being developed.
3. The Wall Imaging radar main purpose is to detect pipes, electrical wiring, and other construction detail hidden within the walls. The
project has been commenced and is in the initial proof of concept stage (simulation stage of phased array antenna and signal processing
algorithm). The device would use tablet’s screen display for user interface through the BT (Bluetooth) wireless communication or through
the USB connection. The wall imaging radar would be the same size as the tablet and would physically be attached underneath the tablet
to form a single assembly when imaging tests are performed.
MATCHMAKING OBJECTIVES
QR is looking to achieve following matchmaking objectives for its projects:
1. The German counterpart would manufacture proof-of-concept prototypes
2. Develop embedded software with algorithms developed by the QR
3. Aid in testing and developing the necessary manufacturing processes for the final product
4. Provide antenna testing facility (i.e. anechoic chamber) if required (may not be necessary)
5. Provide marketing strategy and perhaps distribution channels

CONSTRUCTION/ FINISHING TECHNOLOGY
Cadillac Coatings Canada Inc. Technology: Finishing technology Website: www.cadillaccoatings.ca
COMPANY
Cadillac Coatings Canada Inc. has developed a patented process for powder coating non-metallic (non-conductive) materials. We provide a high
volume, powder coating finishing which is similar to steel powder coating except our finish is for a variety of non-conductive substrate materials
such as:
• MDF – Medium Density Fibreboard
• Fiber Cement – James Hardie Siding/Paneling
• Magnesium Oxide Paneling
• Other non-metallic and non-conductive materials
This revolutionary, patented technology is a new green, environmentally efficient process that is more consistent and accurate providing high
quality finishes that will last. It is a more dependable, durable and upscale alternative to traditional overlays and liquid applications. Cadillac
Coatings’ process is an extremely efficient process, which takes as little as two minutes from start to stacking. The process operates at
approximately 15 feet per minute and does not require additional curing time; touch-up, refinishing or special handling.
TECHNOLOGY
Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials and products that are used by
industries and consumers. The charged powder particles adhere to the surfaces until heated and fused into a smooth coating in a curing oven. The
result is a uniform, durable, high quality, and attractive finish that is known as powder coating. The process applies an even thickness in contrast to
liquid finishing processes that fail to achieve consistency of coating thickness on edges and corners. Powder coatings produce an attractive finish
resistant to corrosion, heat, impact, abrasion, etc. and many other qualities.
Due to automated technology, the CCCI powder coating system only requires program/supervisory and handling labours. To paint the same
amount of square feet manually, the liquid process requires 18 times the labour requirement based on sanding between coats and drying time, as
well as five times the warehouse space required due to the size of the finishing line.
Currently the Cadillac finish is being used on both interior and exterior applications, prominently for the durability and color option for exterior
cladding on both residential and commercial construction. The selection of color, texture and sheen has proven to be a very interesting and
exciting option for architects and designers in the Edmonton region. The personal touch and prime use of specific color matched options is very
appealing to chain commercial construction as well.
Cadillac’s coating process provides significant energy savings. The process is a high speed, high volume process that uses a small foot print relative
to other coating processes. It therefore has lower heat/electrical usage and requires less time and energy for heating, curing, cooling and
ventilation. Cadillac Coatings’ process is an extremely efficient process which takes as little as two minutes from start to stacking. The process
operates at approximately 15 feet per minute and does not require additional curing time, touch-up, refinishing or special handling. The process
uses a much smaller foot print relative to other coating processes. Very few coating processes can be complete from preparation to stacking in five
minutes. Green doesn’t mean lack of quality or durability!
MATCHMAKING OBJECTIVES
Understanding the development and design of the European market would be beneficial in assisting the growth of our company. We would be
interested in having additional testing completed to comply with European standards for both quality and durability in this environment. It would
be beneficial for CCCI to meet existing construction companies involved in the erection of commercial building to understand the acceptability of
our finish into the specifications necessary for the growing market. We would also need to review and investigate the necessity of patenting our
process in Europe.
PREFERENCES/REQUIREMENTS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S)
Requirements and preferences for a potential partner would be the potential of licensing our technology, or becoming a strategic partner with a
firm while understanding their field of expertise in areas that would be beneficial to both CCCI and the German partner. Companies of most
interest are manufacturing companies of exterior cladding, architects and/or designers. Another option would be a company that is currently using
a finishing technology that would consider our technology as an alternative.
BENEFITS FOR POTENTIAL PARTNER(S)
We would like to collaborate with a strategic partner and work together in bringing our strengths and durability into the exterior applications of the
German commercial and residential construction industries.
