and keying of PCB slot positions. The
innovation is non-stop.
Rittal offers a comprehensive line of
electronic packaging solutions. And
how did we get there? With
years of dedication to listening
to our customers and their
ever-changing requirements,
as well as keeping pace with
today’s emerging technologies.
Worldwide Standards.
In fact, we were right there at the beginning of this electronic
packaging revolution. That’s why no one offers more experience in
CompactPCI. The Ripac team is fully engaged in the research,
design, evaluation and implementation of industry-wide
specifications. These include IEC, IEEE, VITA, VIPA, PICMG,
ACTPCI COMPANY.
and more. It is through this involvement that we are able to design
systems that meet the most significant standards.
Why CompactPCI?
There is tremendous excitement through the industry about
CompactPCI. CompactPCI is not really an invention of something
altogether new, rather it represents the combination of three
essential architectures: PCI, the 2mm connector system and the
expanded “Eurocard” packaging system. CompactPCI continues to
be a growing trend within the industry for two reasons. First, the
software executed on personal computers can be used as is with
CompactPCI because the electrical and logic layers of the PCI
local bus in these PCs are exactly the same.

Y STANDARDS.PICMG 2.9 SMBus Extensions For CompactPCI
This draft specification is just getting started, and will define how the PCI
SIG’s System Management Bus (SMBus) can be adapted to
CompactPCI type applications - including hot swap.
PICMG 2.10 Backplane And Front Panel Keying
This draft standard will summarize the assignment of the CompactPCI
backplane J1/P1 and J4/P4 connectors keys, and also special
assignment of the front panel keys defined in IEEE 1101.10.
PICMG 2.11 Power Interface Spec.
This draft defines the electrical and mechanical interfaces, and minimum
requirements for modular CompactPCI pluggable power supplies.
StandardsIEEE 1101.1*IEEE Standard for Mechanical Core Specifications for Microcomputers
using IEC 60603-2 connectors.

with IEC 60917.
VITA 30 2mm Connector for Euroboard Systems. Draft.
Difference Between Standards And Specifications
The common practice of referring to a document as a standard or a
specification depends upon which organization is supporting the
document. If a document is supported by IEEE, ANSI, IEC and other
officially sanctioned, standard-setting organizations, it is called a
standard. If a document is supported by an independent trade
association or special interest group (such as PCI SIG, PICMG or ECTF),
it is referred to as a specification.
*Note: All 3 IEEE standards mentioned must be used in conjunction.
As a global innovator, Rittal realizes the importance of adhering to
worldwide standards such as CompactPCI and IEEE. In fact, we have
built the implementation of these standar ds directly into the
development of our Ripac products. The following is a summarized
list of the associated CompactPCI specifications being de veloped
under the auspices of the PICMG Technical Committee.
SpecificationsPICMG 2.0, R2.1 CompactPCI
This is the core CompactPCI specification that defines the mechanical
structure, plus pin assignments of the PCI electrical layer to the 2mm
connector system. Additional specifications are provided to support a
complete CompactPCI base system. Revision 2.1 is the second official
release of this specification.
PICMG 2.1 Hot SwapThis draft specification is still under development and defines the
electrical, mechanical and software mechanisms for hot swapping (live
insertion and live withdrawal) of CompactPCI boards in a live system.
The draft specification will also define how to build systems to support
dynamic configuration and how to build high-availability systems.
PICMG 2.2 VME64xThis draft specification maps all the VME64x (VITA 1.1-199x) bused
signal lines to the 2mm connector systems, CompactPCI J4/P4 and J5/
P5 connectors. The definition will provide bridging between VME64x
boards and CompactPCI boards in a single CompactPCI slot. A single
monolithic backplane can be built that will provide slots for both VME64x
and CompactPCI boards.
PICMG 2.3 PMC On CompactPCI
This draft specification provides several ways of mapping the PMC (IEEE
P1386.1) 64-pin J4 I/O connector to the user-defined connectors on
CompactPCI backplanes.
PICMG 2.4 IP On CompactPCI
This draft specification provides several ways of mapping an Industry
Pack (VITA 4-1996) 50-pin I/O connector to the user-defined connectors
on CompactPCI backplanes.
PICMG 2.5 Computer Telephony
This draft specification adapts CompactPCI core specification to
computer telephony type applications along with pin assignments of the
H.110 (TDM) bus defined by ECTF.
PICMG 2.6 PCI-to-PCI Bridge for CompactPCI
This draft specification defines the bridging of two CompactPCI local
buses in a single slot. The A bus is defined on the J1/P1 and J2/P2
connectors (normal CompactPCI) and the B bus is defined on the J4/P4
and J5/P5 connectors.
PICMG 2.7 Dual CompactPCI Bac kplane
This draft specification defines how two independent CompactPCI bus
segments can be built in a 6U form factor. The lower bus (A bus) is
defined for the J1/P1 and J2/P2 connectors and the upper bus (B bus) is
defined on the J4/P4 and J5/P5 connectors.
PICMG 2.8 PXI (PCI Extensions For Instrumentation)
This draft specification adapts CompactPCI for instruments in a fashion
similar to the way that VMEbus was extended to VXI (VME Extensions for
Instrumentation). The core CompactPCI architecture is the basis for this
definition.

Perfect Handling Solutions With...
COMPACTPCI HANDLES.
Telecom Handle Or AlternativeHandle Solution, Type VIIThis injector/extractor handle solution has all the features of the IEEE1101.10/1101.11 and CompactPCI requirements (with limited front panelI/O space) and is designed for systems (subracks) conforming to IEEE1101.10 and IEEE 1101.11 standards. However, this handle has onemore distinguishing feature: the solder side (component side 2) of thePCB can be optionally increased by 2.54mm (0.1”) to provide for moresurface mounted component space (this additional feature cannot beimplemented for CompactPCI). Suitable as pluggable power supplyhandle per PICMG Draft 2.11. Tying together of multiple handles alsoavailable.

yet higher injection and extraction forces. Please inquire for status.
CompactPCI Handle Solution, Type IVThe Ripac CompactPCI injector/extractor handle referred to in theCompactPCI specification is designed to meet the IEEE 1101.10 andIEEE 1101.11 standards. This Ripac Type IV injector/extractor handleprovides for full front panel I/O usage and is suitable for system(subrack) front and rear (I/O) mounted boards. The handle locking/unlocking device activating in the handle’s embedded microswitch isa Ripac design feature. This solution complies nicely with theCompactPCI full hot swap requirements.Other features of this handle are:• Keying of plug-in PCB boards (4096 combinations)• ESD protection• Grounding connection for plug-in boards• Tying of multiple handles together

CompactPCI PCB Solder SideCovers For Hot SwapThe CompactPCI specification for full hot swapcalls out for two types of ESD protection:1. The ESD strips on the PCB (see
CompactPCI hot swap specifications).2. The use of ESD covers on the “rear side of
the boards.” (The “rear side” is also calledthe “component side 2” or “backside”).
The solder side cover will prevent accidentalcontact of conductive components withneighboring boards. The material is of an anti-static and non-conductive nature. Hot spots onthe PCB component side 2 may require ventholes in the area of the hot spot (see perfo-rated version). The required mounting hole sizes and positionsare defined in the IEEE 1101.11 standard andthe CompactPCI specifications.See page 65 for more details.

Conventional AC/DC Tubeaxial Muffin Fans...
SYSTEM COOLING.CompactPCI System Cooling Method AMethod A is the most common way of system cooling and good forPCBs which do not exceed 30 Watt heat dissipation, since the fanshave a “dead” spot over the center of the fan and typically “dead”spots between the fans (4 dead spots) at 21 slots. It is advisable toplace the fans at least 50mm (2”) below the boards so that the air can“fan” out, thus air will reach all parts of the boards (this will add overallsystem height). The efficiency of these tubeaxial muffin fans operating at maximumgenerated 7.62mm/0.3” of H2O of static pressure under theseconditions may be as little as 20%. An additional metal fan chassisdesign is required making replacement of failed fans difficult and timeconsuming.System shut down at fan replacement may be required.
CompactPCI System Cooling Method BMethod B is not often used, as the fans may be in the way of topmounted drives, power supplies, etc. However, this method is an improvement over Method A, as theefficiency of these muffin fans may be as much as 30%. The reasonis there are no dead spots to deal with and less back pressure. However, the maximum generated static pressure of the tubeaxialmuffin fans remains at 7.62mm/0.3“ of H2O.
CompactPCI System Cooling Method CMethod C is perhaps the most popular for VME solutions. However, it isnot suitable when extensive rear panel I/O or CompactPCI rearmounted I/O boards are used.Fan efficiency is approx 30%.

The RiCool Advantage Method DThe ability of the RiCool blower to generate 40.64mm/1.6” (H2O) of staticpressure confirms that the RiCool blower is able to provide effective coolingin densely packed enclosures and subracks. By comparison, a typical 19”rackmount fan tray, consisting of (3) 4.7” x 4.7” 18W (110cfm at freedelivery) fans, generates only 0.22”-0.40” (H2O) of static pressure. Theestimated (operating) static pressure point of a fan assembly mountedinside a fully loaded subrack is 0.3-0.5” (H2O). Under those conditions oneRiCool blower assembly provides at least 40% higher airflow than a typical19” rackmount fan tray with 3 tubeaxial muffin fans.

The RP3901 load board
DescriptionThe RiTherm load board and the RiThermsystem concept are built around the RP39xxload board. The RP39xx load board is a 6U/3UCompactPCI form factor instrumentation boardand is CPCI based. It provides a resistiveheating array, temperature and airflowsensors. The intended applications are:
• Evaluation and measurement of cooling in6U/3U CompactPCI systems.
• Evaluation of power supply quality onCompactPCI backplanes.
• Voltage measurement of 5V, 3.3V, and+12V/-12V on each load board.
The RP39xx Thermal Load BoardsThis RiTherm load board is a concept that enables users to validate thethermal characteristics of their system before all PCBs are designed. Inpast projects, system designers have often underestimated the needfor heat dissipation. This miscalculation of the cooling system cancause costly problems, such as a missed product launch. Now, Rittaland PIXStream have designed a simple system that will enable you tovalidate cooling dynamics of your particular system before it is built.
The RP6100 Thermal SystemThe RiTherm system consists of a 10U CompactPCI subrack equippedwith two powerful hot swappable 12V RiCool blowers. The CPCIbackplane is of your choice. The system shown is designed to acceptup to 21 slots of front/rear mounted (6U x 160mm front/6U x 80mmback) PCBs. A solution for measuring rear PCBs (I/O boards) ispresently not included.
The main components are:• 38 power resistor banks that can be
individually powered from either the 5V or3.3V backplane power rails. Theseresistor banks are distributed evenlyacross the load board and can beconfigured to dissipate between 0 Wattand 90 Watt of combined power (maxi-mum 40W from the 3.3V rail, or 90W fromthe +5V rail).
• Eight power resistor banks that can beindividually powered from either the +12Vor the -12V power rails and that candissipate between 0W and 23W ofcombined power.
• Six calibration-free temperature sensors, placed at various locations.
• Three mass airflow sensors.• 8051 series microcontroller (AnchorChip
AN2131QC) with RS232C serial hostinterface. This interface is used to reporttemperature and airflow measurement toa host PC.
Up to 21 RP39xx load boards can be front/rear loaded into the RiTherm system and theycan be daisy-chained such that one RP39xxload board is the designated host-interface(master) load board, while others are slaves. This topology permits readings to beobtained from any slot of the RiTherm system.

RP13xx, RP14xx And RP44xx Modular Series...
COMPACTPCI BACKPLANES.
37
OverviewThe RP13xx, the RP14xx and the RP44xx series of 32-bit or64-bit backplanes allow the construction of CompactPCIsystems with any number of slots. Each backplane module contains between 2 and 8 slots andoperate in stand-alone mode with a CPU card and powersupply. To build larger systems, multiple modules can be linkedtogether using rear-mounting PCI bridge modules. In thiscase, only one of the modules operates with a CPU card in thesystem slot.A bridge module drives the buses of the remaining modules(which become slave modules). Slave modules do not containCPU modules, but the first slot on the right side of thebackplanes (system seen from the front) becomes availablefor a standard 32-bit or 64-bit CompactPCI host CPU.All CPCI modular backplanes are of an 8 layer design, and theCPCI/H.110 backplanes are of a 10 layer design.
Please inquire for our comprehensive RP13xx-RP14xxand/or RP44xx CompactPCI Backplane User Manuals.
The intention of this modular CPCI backplane series is to getyou “on the way” with your CPCI prototype as quickly aspossible. For your production needs, custom “monolithic”backplanes may be required (for reduced power cabling, please inquire). Power is supplied to the system through ATX-compliant connectors. Front pluggable CompactPCI powersupplies require a pluggable power supply backplane (seepages 49-51). The pluggable power supply backplane isconnected to the CompactPCI backplanes via a cableharness. ATX compatible power supply harnesses may bedirectly plugged into CompactPCI backplanes. For moreinformation on custom CPCI backplanes, please see the notebelow. The RP CPCI modular backplanes are co-developed byPIXStream and Rittal.
Technical SpecificationsCPU SlotOne single-wide 3U or 6U 32-bit or 64-bit CPU card is required persystem. The system slot on the right side ensures that 2-slot wide (ormore) system cards will not overhang peripheral CPCI slots renderingthem unusable.
Available SlotsEach backplane contains two to eight 3U or 6U single-wide, 32-bit or64-bit CompactPCI slots. The bus interfaces are 5V, 33MHz hot swapcompatible.
PCI Bridge SlotsSingle backplanes require no bridge. One rear-mounting bridge(RP1130) is required for each additional backplane.
Power SupplyEach backplane contains one or more ATX compliantpower connectors.
External Power HeaderEach backplane contains 0.156” MTA header, for connecting a powerswitch, power LEDs, etc. This connector makes +3.3V, +5V, and +/-12V voltages available outside the backplane.
Rear I/O (J3-J5) For RP14xx And RP44xxEach slot provides rear I/O through the use of “long-tailed” J3-J5connectors with shrouds. Please consult the factory for cost reducedversions with depopulated J3-J5 connectors and shrouds.
Standards compliancePCI 2.1 (PCI Spec.)PICMG 2.0 R2.2 (CompactPCI Spec.)PICMG 2.1 R1.0 (Hot swap Spec.)IEEE 1101.1 MechanicalIEEE 1101.10 MechanicalIEEE 1101.11 Mechanical
Note: When using the modular RP CPCI backplane range, please remember that cable harnesses are required forpower feed. If customized “monolithic” CPCI backplanes arerequired, these cable harnesses would be “embedded”(designed in) into the backplane (typical CPCI monolithic).See pages 35-36 for a typical design.

32-Bit & 64-Bit BackplaneTechnical Specifications:
32-Bit And 64-Bit BackplaneTechnical Specifications:The CompactPCI specification defines botha 32-bit and a 64-bit implementation. Eitherimplementation can be accomplished on a3U daughter card. However, the 32-bitimplementation makes the entire P2/J2connector (upper) available for user definedI/O for slots 2-8. The controller card slot(usually slot 1) makes use of some P2 pinsfor such functions as clock, arbitration,grant/requests and some other systemfunctions. These pins are indicated with boldtype to the right. In 32-bit systems, the backplane connectorin the P2 position may have optional 16mmrear tails and a shroud so I/O signals maypass through the backplane to rear mountedcards or cable assemblies.*All standard Rittal RPxxxx modular CPCIbackplanes are basically 64-bit. 32-Bit Pin Assignment
64-Bit Pin Assignment64-Bit CompactPCI Pin AssignmentsIn the case of the 64-bit CompactPCI, both theP1 and P2 connectors are fully assigned withno pins available for user defined I/O. For suchsystems, only 6U designs can have rearpanel I/O.Although CompactPCI is designed to beaccomplished on 3U cards, 6U implementa-tions provide optional P3, P4 and P5 connec-tors, which all have undefined pins for user I/O.6U CompactPCI provides more user definedpins than any other bus structure today.*All standard Rittal RPxxxx modular CPCIbackplanes are basically 64-bit. For 32-bitversions the P2 connector is not installed. If P2is used for I/O, please inquire.

RP1130 Modular Backplane BridgesTechnical Specifications:The RP1130 is a unique rear-bridge designed to extend theCompactPCI bus from 8 slots to larger configurations.CompactPCI has been designed to accommodate up to 8 slots on abus segment. Installing a bridge on a bus consumes one of theloads (slots) on the segment but creates a new bus segment with upto 7 additional backplane slots. The bridge handles all communica-tion between the bus segments (modular backplanes). Our rear mounting method enables larger configurations to beconstructed without wasting valuable front slots to bridgingfunctions, thus enabling a larger number of usable slots. In the RP modular series of backplanes, RP1130 bridge is used tolink together multiple backplane modules. This allows backplaneswith any number of slots to be constructed. The RP1130 is a 64-bit bridge and can be used with either theRP1300 (3.5U), RP1400 (6.5U), or the RP4400 series of backplanes.Technical Specifications• Form factor
- Rear-mounting “pallet module”- PCI bridge
• 64-bit high performance DEC 21154• Compatible backplanes
- Any backplanes in the RP13xx, RP44xx and RP14xx modular CompactPCI series
• Compliance- PCI 2.1 compliant- CompactPCI Rev 2.1 compliant- Bridge module features
This bridge is a “pallet” module bridge (a proprietary format definedby RP). This allows the bridge to be mounted on the rear of thebackplanes, so that the maximum number of slots is available on thefront of the backplanes.Features• The bridge is a 64-bit PCI to PCI bridge, using the DEC 21154
bridge chip.• The bridge module bridges from right to left. (When mounted on
the backplane and viewed from the front, the right connec-tor will act as a peripheral, while the left connector will act as ahost).
• The same bridge module is compatible with both 3.5U, 6.5Ubackplanes and 7U backplanes.

IEEE 1101.10 PCB Guide RailsOne of the most important features of the IEEE 1101.10 compatiblesubrack is the PCB guide rail. Based on the IEEE 1101.1 (VME,VME64) guide rail which happens to be max 10.16mm (2 HP).(.4”) wide, the width of the IEEE 1101.10 is max 20.32mm(.8”) wide and includes chambers for a keying and alignment pin, earthing mechanism.
Tips:• Choose an airflow dynamic design.• Choose a design which will permit various PCB thicknesses
(1.6-2.5mm).• Choose a design which prevents mis-insertion of PCBs (hot swap).• Choose a non-metallic design to prevent metal powder, shaved off
by the PCB FR4, to migrate (electrically charged) up the PCB anddestroy sensitive components.
• For CompactPCI, choose a design which offers optional red guiderails for system slot indentification and offset guide rails forpluggable power supply.
IEEE 1101.10 ElectromagneticCompatibility (EMC)“Empty” subrack systems without any active boards had never been covered by an EMCstandards. Only when the active boards are installed the (CompactPCI) system will emitelectromagnetic radiation or be influenced by interference from the outside. When thresholdvalues are exceeded, the EMC shielding interfaces as specified in IEEE 1101.10 and the IEC/EMC performance test values can provide help. Assembling EMC subrack systems (CPCI)also presents special requirements for I/O (input/output) and power cable connections.Unshielded cable entry results in total loss of air shielding provided by IEEE 1101.10compliance. To prevent this, unshielded cable must be passed through filters or terminatingcapacitors. When shielded cable is used, the subrack interconnection of the cable shieldmust be concentric, as well as low resistive and low inductive.
Tips:• Look out for subracks with max PCB airflow capability (opening between the horizontal
members of the subrack and “slimness” of the guide rails for the PCBs). Look for a goodairflow management system solution for the max system performance anticipated.
• Look at EMC test results for the empty subrack system. Look again at the EMC test resultsperformed after the same empty subrack system has undergone an industrial aging test.Note: If the max connector insertion/extraction operations are 400 cycles, the EMC gasketand the front panel injection/extraction handle, etc. have to perform 400 cycles as well.
• Look at the anti-shock and vibration test results for the empty subrack system, as this mayeffect the long-term EMC performance of your system.
• Use solder side covers on the PCB component side 2 to prevent, amongst possiblecomponent or electrical problems, EMC gasket damage.
• Look out for a subrack system solution which can be used in both a Non-EMC, as well as inan EMC environment (by simply adding EMC Gaskets to the Non-EMC subrack systeminstead of having to replace it with an (alternative) EMC compatible subrack system version. This may save you time and money when encountering unforeseen EMC problems).
• The use of the IEEE 1101.10 specified “alignment pin” prevents stacking of EMC gasketpressure to one side, keeping every board in its defined slot allocation.
• To prevent EMC gasket damage, make sure that the EMC gaskets do not pass over the PCBto front panel mounting screw heads. Make sure that the gaskets on the PCB front panelscannot be “over compressed,” retaining their contact pressure.
• Choose an EMC gasket design which is “segmented,” thus insuring guaranteed contactpoints in at least every 25mm interval.

ESD Protection
IEEE 1101.10 ESD ProtectionTwo principle approaches for ESD protection are part of the IEEE1101.10 standard. The intention of the first approach is to bleed off static electricitywhen inserting a PCB into the subrack system. The second intentionis to bleed off static electricity when an I/O cable is connected to analready installed PCB front panel in a live system. The first approachrequires an ESD strip on the PCB component side, top and/orbottom.Every ESD compatible subrack system has the capability of adefined ESD contact clip embedded in the front end of the guide rail(slot) connected to the chassis GND. The corresponding ESDcontact strip(s) on the PCB provide for either (optional) continuouscontact with the ESD clip even after the PCB is fully inserted into thebackplane connector or break contact between the ESD strip on thePCB and the ESD clip(s) in the subrack system before connectorengagement takes place. In either case the PCB/ESD discharge stripmay be segmented and a resistor(s) may be required between theESD discharge strip on the PCB and the power return to limit thedischarge current (0 Vdc). VME requires two 1 Mega Ohm resistorsin series to be connected between each of the ESD strip/s imple-mented and the PCBs GND plane. CompactPCI deals with this issuein the hot swap specification.
The second approach makes use of the “alignment pin,” as definedin IEEE 1101.10.This multi-purpose alignment pin provides amongst other features, agrounding feature function (not part of IEEE 1101.10, see ProtectiveGround in 1101.11 which can fulfill the same function) when anI/O cable is connected to the PCB front panel installed in a livesystem in case the operator is not connected to the an ESD strap. The electrical discharge will pass directly into the chassis GND andis prevented to pass through the PCB.
Tips:• Make sure that the ESD clips are installed in both the top and
bottom (front end) of the subrack system slot.• Make sure that the guide rail (slot) does not permit mis-insertion
(by-passing the ESD clip).• Make sure that the solder side cover on the PCB component side
2 is of anti-static material.

IEEE 1101.10 Keying ConceptIn many VME, VIPA and CompactPCI applications which haveI/O through the backplane’s user defined pins, specific plug-inPCBs are defined to specific slot positions in the system.Plugging the wrong PCB into such a predefined slot couldcause the system to function improperly, or in case of differentpower voltages it could have a disastrous result.

VME64x And CompactPCI Injector/Extractor HandlesExtraction position• Self-locking• Keying (4000+ combinations)• Alignment pin• Front panel ESD• Printed board ESD• Optional embedded microswitch• Optional retention screw• Suitable for EMC and Non-EMC front panels
Tips:• The “alignment pins” align the PCB vertically for improved
connector engagement (advanced pre-charge pinsequencing).
• The ejection function of the handle should not take place inthe area where the horizontal EMC gaskets may be appliedin either the front or rear of subrack. This will preventpossible damage to the horizontal system mounted EMCgaskets.
• The injector/extractor must be designed to comply with theminimum connector injection/extraction cycles (VME 400cycles; CompactPCI 200 cycles).
• Look at the anti-shock and vibration results of theself-locking feature.
• Choose an injector/extractor handle design which can beganged, to allow for double (8 HP), triple (12 HP) andquadruple (16 HP) wide PCB front panel designs or tying of4 HP wide PCB front panels.
• Choose an injector/extractor handle design whichprovides for a hot swap (microswitch) solution.

Alignment Pins
Alignment Pin For CompactPCIFeatures:• Lifts the PCB to ensure parallel connector mating prior to connector
engagement• Provides for solid/protected keying• Provides for a front panel ESD contact• Ensures front panel alignment• Provides for a front panel earth/groundRequirements:There are two requirements of this standard for plug-in unit front panelearth/ground. They are as follows:
a) Short term current/resistance (200 A at 100 mΩ for 5 ms);b) Continuous current/resistance (25 A at 100 mΩ continuous).
Resistance:The maximum resistance between the front panel of the plug-in unitand earth/ground is 100 mΩ, and is divided into three parts. They areas follows:
a) 40 mΩ maximum between the plug-in unit front panel (alignment/protective earth/ground pin) and the subrack (alignment/earth/ground pin receptacle)
b) 40 mΩ maximum between the subrack (alignment earth/groundpin receptacle) and the subrack frame earth/ground
c) 20 mΩ maximum between the subrack frame earth/ground andthe earth/ground. (UL recognition pending)
