Choral Competition

to present two contrasting pieces to take no more than 8
minutes, and to include a piece by a Welsh composer.
Choirs can also choose to perform an arrangement of a
Welsh folk song by a Welsh composer.
Choirs will not be permitted to sing the same song in
another category during the Eisteddfod. This competition
will be held on Saturday 1 August 2020.
Entry to this competition is permitted after competing in
two local eisteddfodau between May 2018 and May 2020.
The local eisteddfodau must be mentioned when registering
for this competition.

Scholarship
These scholarships were set up to promote vocal music for
soloists in Wales.
The scholarships, held for a year, are awarded to the most
promising competitor in a special competition to enable
him / her to follow a vocal training course at a recognised
music school or college.
The scholarships are open to any person born in Wales or
one of whose parents were born in Wales, or any person
who has lived or worked in Wales for the three years prior
to 31 August 2020, or any person who can speak or write
Welsh.
The competitors will be expected to prepare a programme
of no more than 15 minutes. The programme must include
one song by a Welsh composer from the twentieth century
or the current century, and every song must be sung in
Welsh.
The Eisteddfod Office will provide Welsh translations of any
songs. Translation requests must be made before 1 May
2020, enclosing a copy of the original words and music to
apply for a translation. Competitors will not be able to
change their original choice of songs after 1 May 2020.
The Eisteddfod will provide an accompanist for this
competition but competitors have the right, if they wish, to
bring their own accompanists.
The adjudication panel may withold the scholorships or
divide them between more than one winner if needed.

Four competitors from those competing in competitions 55-
60 will be chosen to compete for the Blue Riband.
These competitions are held in the one centre following
each other, before a panel of adjudicators.

Peggy and Maldwyn Hughes Fund Scholarship
Competitions 55-60 ead to the Blue Riband and a
scholarship worth £3,000 from the Peggy and Maldwyn
Hughes Fund.
The scholarship is open to any person born in Wales or one
of whose parents were born in Wales, or any person who
has lived or worked in Wales for the three years prior to 31
August 2020, or any person who can speak or write Welsh.
This scholarship was created to promote instrumental music
in Wales. This scholarship is held for a year and is to be
used to further the winner’s career as a musician. The
scholarship cannot be won more than once, but you can
compete more than once to win the prizes.
The panel of adjudicators will choose four competitors from
competitions 55-60 to compete on the pavilion stage and
competitors should perform the same programme.

Ivor ac Aeres Evans Trust Scholarship
Competitions 69-74 lead to the Blue Riband and the Ivor
and Aeres Evans Trust Scholarship, worth £1,000.
The scholarship is open to any person born in Wales or one
of whose parents were born in Wales, or any person who
has lived or worked in Wales for the three years prior to 31
August 2020, or any person who can speak or write Welsh.
This scholarship is held for a year and is to be used to
further the winner’s career as a musician. The scholarship
cannot be won more than once, but you can compete more
than once to win the prizes.
The adjudication panel will choose four competitors from
competitions 69-74 to compete on the pavilion stage. The
same programme should be performed.

Competition
Open competition for individuals of all ages.
Present a story based on a legend or traditional Welsh story
(ancient or modern). The story should appeal to a wide
audience, showing the storyteller’s ability to entertain and
grasp the audience’s attention. Costumes and small
movable props may be used if required. No longer than 8
minutes. The script should not be presented beforehand.
On the day registration, at least an hour before the
competition. Limited spaces.

This annual scholarship was set up to offer training to a
writer or poet who has not already published a volume of
his / her work. For the 2020 Eisteddfod it is offered to a
poet. The competitors are asked to submit up to 20 poems,
which are original and new work by the writer.
