COMMUNITY UPDATE Welcome to the first issue of the Elephant & Castle Town Centre Redevelopment Community Update. It is our aim to keep you, the community, informed of forthcoming activities and progress with regular publications. The redevelopment of Elephant and Castle will rejuvenate the town centre providing housing, mixed use amenities, transport infrastructure and public realm space. Keltbray has been engaged to undertake demolition works which will commence mid October 2020 to enable the start of construction in 2021. Multiplex has also been engaged as the technical advisors to the development team. ISSUE 1 | SEPTEMBER 2020 TOWN CENTRE Together, we would invite you, the community and local stakeholders, to an introductory session to meet and engage with the development team. In the lead up to site activities, we would like to present the proposed plans for the project, including the on-going support and opportunities. Although COVID restricts the usual way in which we would normally host the community engagement meetings, we are working with the development team to ensure that we provide updates via other means whereby we would answer any questions you may have about the development. THE FIRST COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT MEETINGS ARE SCHEDULED FOR: TUESDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER & TUESDAY 6TH OCTOBER AT 18:30. With change comes opportunity.Together with the Developer Delancey and Southwark Council, Keltbray have been able to plan opportunities that will be available for local residents and the community in the form of training, jobs and apprenticeships. Keltbray have a well established relationship with Southwark schools and colleges, although currently these are uncertain times for education providers, we remain committed to improving the opportunities for the communities in which we work.

C U R R I C U LU M E N G AG E M E N T

We have extensive experience supporting schools and have 30 science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) ambassadors. We also have a schools programmes that is designed to support students making decisions at key times during their education. This includes work placements, site visits, mentoring and construction specific training. We work closely with Universities, Colleges and charities such as Construction Youth Trust to ensure that construction related education is enhanced by industry professionals.

C O M M U N I T Y E N G AG E M E N TSupporting Bankside Open Spaces Trust

Bankside remains committed to keeping Southwark’s spaces safe and accessible for the local community and we hope to work alongside key stakeholders in and around Elephant and Castle to continue to help the local community.

We have a long standing connection with Southwark, working on projects such as The Shard, Heygate Estate and most recently Stoney Street otherwise known as Borough Yards, which is the development of the Borough Market area. Our work in this area has enabled us to develop a long standing commitment to support Bankside Open Spaces Trust.

During the deconstruction phase we have explored with our site team how to provide employment opportunities to the local community.

Keltbray has secured funding to deliver training to unemployed individuals. The purpose of the training and development activities are to equip any learner with the necessary, skills and knowledge to gain sustainable employment in the construction industry, centring on the Elephant and Castle Town Centre Redevelopment.
