CLC - Community Learning Center

Serves as:- center for conducting lifelong learning activities for the people in the community

- common place for creating learning opportunities, knowledge transfer, exchange floor for experiences, and technical issues of the local wisdom

- Community service source for providing various activities in consistence with changes, encouraging learning society and promoting democratic way, personal ethics, moral and self-reliance

• 1972 (2515) – a village Newspaper Reading Center was set up

• 1985 (2528) – CLC was formally established (by the Dep’t. of NFE)

• 1998 (2541) – the concept of CLC development towards education for all was emphasized

• 2004 (2547) – the concept of CLC as ‘lifelong learning center’ was initiated.

1. Promote and create the atmosphere/ concept ‘of the people, by the people, for the people’.

2. Provide and promote lifelong learning emphasizing on community participation and self-reliant development

3. Promote learning by focusing on self-study, knowledge search and using existing resources in the community including local wisdom and experts

4. Provide an open education system with education services and facilities accessible and can be utilized at any time available

5. Provide vocational and educational advice to the members of the community

6. Coordinate the NFE Teachers, the people in the community and all network parties for mobilizing CLC activities upon the development of the community, households, as well as each individual7. Coordinate and connect the community learning sources and the natural learning sources to serve as learning centers for the

members of the community.

1. Prepare appropriate place and materials for CLC

Limitations of CLCLimitations of CLC

1. Insufficient budget2. Some people in the community do not fully

recognize their rights and privileges to exploitthe endeavors and offers of CLC

3. Certain personnel from bureaucracy sectorsbehold themselves as implementers of CLC

4. Education provision is still limited to certaingroups of people.

5. The status of the CLC teachers/facilitators arenot stable until the 5th year of their tenure.
