£Three years since Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd’s Community Investment Fund was established I’m proud of what has been achieved and the number of projects across Gwynedd, large and small, that have benefitted.

From the beginning we have been committed to play our part in the communities we serve, the Investment Fund is one way we can contribute in a positive way. Making an impact on the community is part of our vision as an association and we are proud of our record so far.

Since the fund was set up, 130 projects and community events have received funding which equates to £712,438.29 of investment by CCG. In 2013/14 alone, applications from 49 groups were approved, which attracted match funding worth £1m from other funding sources to Gwynedd.

The partnership we have developed with Mantell Gwynedd is key to the success of the Fund and I would like to thank them, as well as our staff for their work over the year. I would also like to thank CCG’s Community Benefit Forum and the Gwynedd Community Chest Panel for their work and contribution to ensure the success and maximum benefit is gained from the Fund.

I look forward to another year of working together to strengthen communities and to create opportunities for the people of Gwynedd.

Ffrancon WilliamsChief Executive, Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd

It gives me great pleasure again this year to write a few words of introduction to this booklet which looks back on the

2013-14 period of administering the Community Investment

Fund on behalf of Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG). This is the second year which Mantell Gwynedd have been working with CCG to administer this very important fund. The success, once again, can be seen within this booklet.

During 2013-14, 26 local groups in Gwynedd benefitted from the Main Fund administered by Mantell Gwynedd and as you will see from this booklet, they range in size, activities and geographical location. The value of this year’s Fund was £224,358.26 and this amount has enabled organisations to attract a further £1m of additional funding to support their projects. This means that over a two year period the Community Investment Fund has distributed £487,000 which has attracted over £3m of additional funding to Gwynedd. We should be immensly proud of this – what an achievement!

Once again, it is partnership working which has been key to the success. I am most grateful to CCG not only for contracting with us to administer this Fund, but also for their professionalism and co-operation throughout the process. It is this collaboration which has enabled us to ensure the very best value of every penny of the Fund.

I would like to express my thanks to everybody who has contributed to this year’s success and I look forward to continued working in the future for the benefit of Gwynedd citizens.

Seren Ffestiniog Cyf provides care and support to people with learning difficulties so that they can live, work and socialise in their own communities. Seren Ffestiniog Cyf generates income through commercial initiatives to ensure that they can continue to provide this much needed support.

Seren was eager to expand its work and after receiving £10,000 from the Fund the company bought the old Drill Hall in Porthmadog. The new warehouse and shop which re-use and recycle furniture and white goods opened for business in January 2014.

The centre sells furniture donated by the public at reasonable prices which benefits people on low incomes.

As well as the social and economic benefits of the project, Seren hopes it can also contribute to safeguarding the environment by encouraging people to re-use and recycle.

Terry Williams, Project Manager at Seren Ffestiniog Cyf said: “We sell recycled furniture from the new warehouse. We have been doing this from our centre in Blaenau Ffestiniog since 2000 and it has proved to be very successful. We are grateful to CCG for their support and to everyone who has contributed, enabling us to open this new centre in Porthmadog.”

Total project cost £ 62,158

Barmouth Memorial Park has been a focal point for recreational activities in the town since it was opened in 1935 and the area has housed a bowling green, tennis courts and a play area for toddlers.

In recent years, the use of the park had declined and change was necessary to reinstall it as the hub of the community it once was. The Friends of Barmouth Memorial Park Group took over ownership of the park and a consultation with local people was held to see how the park and its facilities could be redeveloped in line with the needs and aspiration of the community.

The Group were successful in their application for £10,000 in grant funding from the Community Investment Fund to fund Phase 1 of the project.
