Decision-Making Balance (DuFour) Tight Expectations

Effective districts establish clear parameters and priorities that enable individuals to work within boundaries in a creative and autonomous way. Some procedures and expectations are “tight”, such as what is to be taught, ie. Non-negotiables.

Loose ExpectationsWithin the district

system, schools, teams and teachers have flexibility in meeting expectations. For example, determining how to teach based on teacher strengths and student needs, thus decisions are “loose.”
