Formatting the Title Page of the Paper1. Now that your paper is complete, you can create the title page, if necessary.

2. To start your title page (if your instructor requires one), click on the Center selection on the Home tab. This will center what you type on this page. Make sure your font type and size match the rest of your paper.

3. On the HOME tab, go to Paragraph. Click on the arrow to the right of the word “Paragraph”.

4. You will see this drop down. Make sure that the line spacing reads “Single” and the Spacing is set to 0 pt BEFORE and 0 pt AFTER.Click OK when you are done.

5. Hit the return key seven times. Type the title of your paper, capitalizing the first letter of significant words.

6. Hit the return key about 12 times. Type your first and last name.

7. Hit return 12 times and type the name of your course, your instructor’s name, and the date.

8. Since your paper has a title page, you have to check your page numbers. In this style, page numbers start with 2 on the first page of the body of the paper. There is no page number on the title page.

9. Click on the Insert tab.

Select Page Number.

Then select Top of Page on the drop down.

Then choose Plain Number 3.

10. Your cursor will be to the left of the page number. If your instructor requires it, type your last name. Make sure there is a space between your name and the number.

11. Because you are working within the Header, you will see the Header tool bar. Click on “Different First Page” to remove the page number and your last name on the title page.

12. When you are finished, click on Close Header and Footer.

You may have to highlight your name and the page number, click on HOME, and choose Times New Roman and 12pt from the font selection.
