About this book

This book is written by Swan Hill Rural

City Council.

This book is about our Community Access and

The plan goes from 2017 to 2021.

The plan will give people with disability

more opportunities.

Opportunities mean the chance to do things

What we want to do

Better access

We will make access better.

We will make it easier for people with disability

to use services.

Better work opportunities

We will help people learn more about disability.

For example, we will train

● our staff

● people who live in Swan Hill

We will give people with disability more

chances to work with us.

Work might be

● paid work

● volunteer work with no pay.

We will help local businesses to employ people

with disability.

We will talk to our staff about discrimination.

Discrimination is when a person does not treat

another person fairly.

Discrimination is not okay.

Help to be part of the community

We will make it easier for people with disability

to do activities and go to events.

We work with advisory committees.

An advisory committee is a group of people

who know about disability and tell us

● what they think

● what works well

● what ideas we should try.

We want people with disability to have fun and

be part of the Swan Hill community.

We also want people with disability to help

organise events in Swan Hill.

that is easy to read.

We will

● write information in Easy English

● have information on our website that can be

read by people who use screen readers.

We will tell good stories about people

with disability

● in our newsletters

● on our website

● on International Day of People

with Disability.
