Do I have to have Spanish to graduate High School? ANSWER: NO! BUT if you are attending a 4

year college or University you will not be accepted without passing two years of the same Foreign Language

Tech Schools, Military, 2 Year Colleges: NO! You do not have to have a Foreign Language to be accepted to these schools/career.

Does Intro To Healthcare count as a 4th Science? ANSWER: YES for graduation purposes from

high school, BUT……………………. If you are attending a 4 year college/University

they WILL NOT ACCEPT IT AS A 4th SCIENCE If you are attending a 2 year college, technical

school, or Military Intro to Healthcare will qualify as a 4th Science

Does Plant Science count as a 4th Science? ANSWER: YES…………no matter what path

you choose after high school Plant Science is accepted as a 4th Science

How do I get into 12 For Life? Bottom line is you need to see Mrs. Farrell in

the cafeteria during lunch and tell her you are interested in the program.

All 12 For Life employees are subject to random drug testing, and you must have a parent/guardian attend the interview process with you.

New employees are hired in August and in January each school year

What are the options at 12 For Life? ANSWER: There are 2 options 1.) You can attend ½ a day. You will attend

1st and 2nd block here at HHS and then you will be transported to and from Carrollton on a Heard County School Bus

2.) You can attend all day (This is known as STEM students) These students attend school at Southwire all day long

How do I sign up for Welding, Cosmetology, or Nursing at West GA Tech? ANSWER: 3 steps 1.) Pass the COMPASS test (to sign up for this

test you need to see Mrs. Farrell) HHS offers this test free of charge twice a year (we have already offered it twice this year)

2.) You must be 16 before the beginning of the semester you intend to start these classes

3.) You must apply and get all of the proper paperwork filled out ON TIME (see Mrs. Farrell for paperwork and details)

How do I become an Honor Graduate? (FOR CURRENT SENIORS YOU JUST NEED 5 HONORS CLASSES AND A 90 GPA)

FOR CURRENT 9th, 10th, and 11th GRADERS: 8 Honors Classes must be passed (at least 1 of

those has to be during your JR year and 1 of those has to be during your SR year)

Maintain a cumulative GPA of 90 or higher (there is NO ROUNDING UP WHEN IT COMES TO THIS)

What did we just do in the commons area? You have not signed up for any classes! Your

teachers simply gave us their recommendations for your classes next year

You and your parents will have an opportunity to sit down with us and actually register in the coming weeks

CURRENT JRS: March 10 – 13th CURRENT SOPHS: March 17 – 21st

CURRENT FRESH: March 24 – 28 IF YOUR PARENTS DON’T COME WE DON’T

If I sign up for an AP course can I drop it later? All of this will be explained at a MANDATORY

AP Night coming up in May. If you sign up for an AP Course you must attend this meeting in May.

What AP Courses does HHS offer? In English: AP Language and AP Literature In Math: AP Calculus In Science: AP Biology (beginning next year

for Freshmen) In Social Studies: AP US History and AP

Microeconomics (AP Government is a possibility very soon)

In Foreign Language: AP Spanish Language

What are AP Classes? They are “Advanced Placement” classes They are taught at a much more demanding level

than your regular classes The teachers will discuss expectations of their AP

There are VERY FEW STUDENTS who can honestly handle more than 2 AP Courses

With the classes being taught at a much more demanding level you will have a hard time managing 3 or more of these courses

These courses ARE ALWAYS TAUGHT IN THE SPRING SEMESTER. (AP Tests are always given in May)

What is the deal with AP Calculus?-Accelerated Algebra-Accelerated Geometry-Accelerated Advanced AlgebraONCE YOU HAVE TAKEN THESE COURSES WE HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO OFFER YOU EXCEPT THE FOLLOWING SEQUENCE AT HHS:ANALYSIS/AP CALCULUS*The other option you have is to dual enroll at a local college and take a College Algebra which will count as your 4th Math course toward graduation requirements*

Do I have to complete a Pathway in CTAE to graduate high school? ANSWER: NO We will encourage you to find

something you like and stick to it so you are not just out there “taking classes”. We have many Pathways to choose from

How many credits do I need to graduate? 26 Credits are required

4 in English 4 in Math 4 in Science 4 in Social Studies 1 in Personal Fitness/Health 3 credits in any combination from the following:

CTAE/Fine Arts/Foreign Language 6 Electives

Why do you come in to register and have no idea what courses you want to take????

In order for us to put you in the proper classes you have to have a plan (or at least an idea of what you want to do when you finish high school)
