“Ed” at the end of regular verbs in the past tense is pronounced in 3 different ways:

• /Id/

• /t/

• /d/

/i:/ /ə/ /ð/

HOW TO PRONOUNCE THE “–ED” SOUND?

/Id/ (id) - Regular verbs that end in /d/ or /d/end in an /Id/ sound.

•Need → needed /Id/

• End → ended /Id/

• Start → started

•Want → wanted /Id/

• Tip: /Id/ sounds like “did”

• Unvoiced sounds: no vibration in the throat. We are not using our vocal chords.
