A Three-Part Model for A Three-Part Model for Measuring Text ComplexityMeasuring Text Complexity

• Quantitative dimensions of text complexity: things computer programs measure such as words, sentences, length of words and sentences

• Qualitative dimensions of text complexity: things human readers measure such as meaning, knowledge base

• Reader and task considerations: things teachers measure such as the tasks we perform using the text such as what we talk about, what we already know, and the appropriateness of the content.
