The committee for Theological Education and Leadership shall consist of six members and shall:

select and endorse candidates for the ordained ministry and lay diaconal ministry according to the policies established by this church;

recruit and support qualified candidates for the ordained ministry, lay diaconal ministry, and professional lay work;

work closely with the Examining Committee and the bishop;

provide continuing education and support for the ordained ministers, lay diaconal ministers, and professional lay workers through workshops, seminars, conferences and retreats;

cooperate with the bishop to provide workshops and seminars to help prevent personal crisis, manage conflict and provide support to ordained ministers, lay diaconal ministers, and professional lay workers and their families; and

appoint an autonomous Care Committee of three persons to provide counselling and resources to ordained ministers, lay diaconal ministers and professional lay workers and their families who are experiencing personal crisis or conflict.

The Committee for Theological Education and Leadership takes a journey with candidates from discerning the call to rostered ministry

Initial Endorsement of CTEL- follows a structured interview with someone outside of CTEL

Annual Endorsement- follows an annual interview with CTEL members

Final Evaluation- reports received from CTEL, Seminary, Internship Supervisors, CPE Supervisors

Written and Oral Examination of the church- Synod Examining Committee

Theological education, completing an undergraduate or graduate degree or as in diaconal, a diploma in theological studies

Spiritual formation- through regular worship, prayer and other spiritual disciplines

Supervised pastoral education- practice the art of pastoral care

Supervised internship-integration of studies and practice of ministry

Designed to prepare candidates to express and reflect on this church’s understanding of the gospel and ministry of the church as expressed in the Lutheran Confessions

Designed to prepare candidates to understand the mission of the church in today’s world

CARE committee which provides crisis counselling by colleagues in ministry

Annual Study Conference, continuing education for all professional leaders
