WELCOME - A note for friends and visitors amongst us. We are
glad you are here with us. A quick note about the Lutheran Divine
service and what we believe about worship. To us worship isn’t so
much about what we do, but about what God does. Lutherans believe
God is present with us through the Word and Sacraments we receive.
In fact, we teach that in the Lutheran Divine Service, God comes to
forgive us, to feed us, bless us and send us out into the world.
Our Liturgy identifies God’s performative work amongst us and as we
receive this ministry of the Word and Sacrament we in turn respond
to God through, responses, songs, prayers giving our thanks and
praise.\

OUTCOME OF THE SPECIAL PARISH MEETING – 24th NOVEMBER 2019 Re
Proposal from LEVNT for Victory Lutheran College to become a
District school in the Victorian system. On Sunday 24th November
after the vote on the above proposal, there was some confusion as
to the exact voting member numbers of the Parish. Having checked
our current membership list, we find that a quorum did exist at the
Special Parish Meeting. Therefore, the resolution from Lutheran
Education Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania (LEVNT), that was
voted on in the affirmative, is carried. Jenny Simboras. Chair,
Wodonga Lutheran Parish
ANOTHER SPECIAL PARISH MEETING – THIS SUNDAY At the Special
Parish meeting on Sunday, after the worship service, there will be
a recommendation from the Parish Council to accept the building
plans for the new church facility, to be built at Victory Lutheran
College. These plans have been posted on the northern wall of St
John's for many months now for members to view. If members have any
comments please direct them to Chair Jenny Simboras or Chair
Redevelopment Tim McInnes before 8
th December.
This meeting will begin at 12 sharp. The recommendation from the
Parish Council reads that:
"The Wodonga Lutheran Parish accepts the plans provided by
Alatalo Bros, for the new church facility at Victory Lutheran
College." Serving Him with you, Jenny Simboras, Chair, Wodonga
Lutheran Parish

Church Building Committee Communiqué # 10
1. The proposed building at the College has been fine turned by
the Alatalo’s draftsman. This finalisation of the plans will take
place on December 8 with a vote by Parish members. There still will
be opportunity for small changes after that but nothing major. We
cannot go any further with these plans until we are able to cost
the building and have some of the land issues resolved.
2. Likewise the plans for the development at Havelock St have
also been redesigned and submitted at the time to the hearing of
VCAT, following the positive outcome of the hearing for Wodonga
City Council, and with only minor changes being necessary to the
plans the council now issue the permit to the Alatalo’s, these
changes come at a cost to the development in that it reduced the
number of units able to be built on site to 18 from 20.
3. Even with the reduction in the build units the project is
still viable.
4. It is still proposed to move to VLC in due course but not
before we have to, this is still a number of months away from
deciding that date, which will allow the Alatalo’s to proceed with
the development planning at Havelock. This was always to be the
case after the approval of the development.
5. The other matter of some consequence for consideration is
there are changed circumstance in governance associated with the
College which may have bearing on what we can do at the college.
The building of a new parish facility at the college
is still very much alive and well, however over this coming
month we will find out more from LEVNT on what the State government
and LEVNT (Lutheran Education Victoria New South Wales and
Tasmania) requires of us as the parish owners of the college.
6. The outcome of the vote from 24 November by the Parish has
been approved to transition the college to become a District school
of the LCAVD. We are assured that nothing much will change at the
college, yes there will be a new constitution for the college, the
governance and some further over sight will be by LEVNT. We as a
Parish will take on a more deliberate roll in a mission ministry
sense.
7. The Parish and the Alatalo’s will meet on a monthly basis
from now on to deal with any matters from site, the college or
Havelock St.
8. Continue to feel free to comment on any aspect of our
intended development at Havelock and VLC.

ALWS CHRISTMAS PACKS for our Lutheran GRACE Project This year
the ALWS Grace Project challenged our Lutheran congregations,
schools and ALWS supporters to support 40,000 refugee children to
go to school…to match the 40,000 students blessed by Lutheran
schools in Australia. A ‘crazy’ challenge, as there are only 15,000
of us in church on any given Sunday. Yet, with 20 days left,
already 38,055 children are supported!. Please support this year’s
Christmas Action to help the last 1,945 refugee children go to
school - $26 per child for a year! Donations are tax-deductible.
People can respond directly to ALWS or via Offering Plate. Let Paul
Vogelsang know if you require a tax receipt. Also, you can order
from the Lutheran World Service ‘Gifts of Grace’ order booklets all
year round! 1300 763 407, alws.org.au/grace or FREEpost the Order
Form.
