Affordable Housing Update As your Miami-Dade County Commissioner, I would like to present affordable housing opportunities throughout the County. My office has verified information provided by the Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development Department about apartments that are/or might become available and may have a waiting list. Miami-Dade County Youth Commission Applications Open
The Miami-Dade County Youth Commission gives young people the opportunity to participate in the process of County government. Students from each Commission district represent and express the needs of youth in Miami-Dade and in doing so, advise the Mayor
and Board of County Commissioners on matters affecting the youth population. Applications are now being accepted for the Miami-Dade County Youth Commission (MDCYC), a county advisory board made up of that advises the Mayor and members of the Board of County Commissioners. Members of the MDCYC must be between 15-18 years of age at the time of appointment and be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. To qualify for an appointment, students must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average, demonstrate a sincere interest and motivation to work for the community, and have a background in community-based activities.
Commissioner Bovo will be sponsoring an item at the May 6th BCC meeting authorizing conveyance fof a county-owned property located on the south side of NW 170th Street between 78th Court and 78th Avenue to the Town of Miami Lakes. The town has asked for
for the property to develop a pedestrian and bike green path.
Resolution - Click Here Budget Presentations On May 23rd, Commissioner Bovo chaired the first and three Finance Budget Presentations. The presentations allowed the department heads and Commissioners to have an open dialogue regarding their proposed budgets for FY 2014-2015. Watch the first presentation here. The following departments will be presenting on May 21st - Transit, Water and Sewer, Aviation, Elections, Community Action and Human Services, Port Miami, Regulatory and Econimic Resources, Public Works and Waste Management, Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces, Public Housing and Community Development, Medical Examiner, Juvenile Services, and Information Technology.

Commissioner Bovo was honored to give the commencement speech for Florida International University's School of International and Public Affairs class of 2014. As a proud alumnus, Commissioner Bovo is dedicated to helping the Panther community "Be Worlds Ahead".
City of Hialeah Easter Egg-Stravaganza Event
Commissioner Bovo attended the City of Hialeah Easter Egg-Stravaganza that was held at Goodlet Park. The event included an afternoon of live entertainment that featured young talented artists from Hialeah schools, dance academies and the Goodlet Theater Cultural Arts program.
Soccer 5 Dedication Event
Commissioner Esteban Bovo Jr., Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department dedicated two new lighted Soccer 5 soccer fields at the state-of-the-art 'Soccer 5' Soccer Complex at Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah. The event also featured a groundbreaking for two new lighted soccer
fields, a new Soccer Field Center and other soccer amenities. The new soccer fields were designed and funded by Soccer 5 Miami, the facility's operator. Each field is 135-by-90 feet, comprised of 4G synthetic turf and can accommodate 6-v-6 through 8-v-8 matches.
Global Youth Service Day at Amelia Earhart Park
Commissioner Bovo and more than 150 youth and their families participated in Global Youth Service Day, sponsored by Delta Dental and Marlins Ayudan, at Amelia Earhart Park in Miami on Saturday, April 12, 2014. The volunteer day of service was hosted by the Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department, in partnership with the Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade. Projects included beautifying the park's main entrance and five-acre dog park. More than 650 plants were installed, 300 trees were mulched, and a fresh coat of paint was applied to picnic tables, dog agility equipment and more.
Reading for National Library Week at Miami Lakes
In celebration of National Libary Week, Commissioner Bovo read to infants and toddlers at the Miami Lakes Library. He read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?" and "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed". The observance of National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association held each April at libraries throughout the County.
Autism Awareness Month Ceremony
Commissioner Bovo along side fellow Commissioners at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center celebrated the unveiling of an art piece in support of Autism Awarness by local artist Romero Britto.

"Our Kids" manages the system of foster care and related services for Miami and Monroe County's
abused, abandoned and neglected children. Our Kids is responsible and accountable for 3,500 children in foster
care. Our Kids coordinates a network of child welfare services that provide case management, adoption, diversion, family preservation, family strengthening,
foster homes, and group and residential care.
