CC HIGH OUTPUT UV COIL CLEANERS

CC Series High-Output UV systems are designed specifically for HVAC applications. They can be mounted in various configurations to irradiate cooling coils and drain pans and for optimum pass-by air decontamination. Individual fixtures can be mounted to plenum walls or multiple fixtures can mount to frame assemblies that span supply ducts or cooling coils. This type of UVC fixtures has been incorporated in the Facilities Standards for the Public Buildings by the U.S. General Services Administration Office of the Chief Architect Applications: Coil Clean (CC) Series UV fixtures are ideal for internal installation in medium to large HVAC systems in commercial, industrial, health care and institutional buildings. They are an excellent choice for mounting close to the coil and drain pan areas to inhibit the growth of mold and mildew in these areas. The CC UV Systems are moisture proof and are offered in single and double lamp configurations. They can be mounted individually or in built-up banks, or in parallel rack-system configurations in a variety of locations, including coils, drain pans, ductwork, mixed air plenums and exhaust systems. The CC fixtures are available in 18”, 24”, 36”, 48” and 60” lengths and 115, 208, 230 or 277VAC voltage options, providing installation flexibility to accommodate virtually any HVAC system. The CC fixtures are designed for moisture-proof applications with UVC lamps that incorporate a built-in outer quartz sleeve with protective boot on the power end for sealing purposes. Power is brought to the lamp with coated lead wires through a waterproof connector that is securely sealed to the lamp. The UV lamps are rated for two-year continuous operational life with approximately 20% drop in UVC output at end of lamp life. Features and Benefits of CC germicidal UV systems installation:

when building banks of rack systems SPECIFICATIONS: Every CC Series fixture is manufactured and factory assembled in the USA and tested prior to shipment. Each assembly consists of housing, reflector, electronic ballast(s), lamp bracket, plug-in power connectors and high output lamp(s). FIXTURE: Housings are constructed of heavy gauge hospital grade stainless steel. Reflectors are fabricated from the highest grade bright annealed polished stainless steel, which has a reflectivity rate of 88% when exposed to short-wave UVC in the range of 254 nm. All components are in one integrated assembly to maximize serviceability.

BALLAST: The solid-state electronic ballast (furnished with this series), is a Class P rapid start with a power factor minimum of .95. It is available for 120, 208, 230, or 277VAC 50/60Hz and is designed to maximize photon production in air temperatures of 35º to 175º F. Minimum ballast start temperature is minus 20º F. Ballasts have an RFI - EMI rating as defined by FCC part 18A for industrial / commercial applications in regards to suppression. Ballasts are UL listed and suitable for use in air handling spaces. LAMPS: CC Series UVC lamps are high-output (800mA), T5 tube diameter, and constructed from hard glass tubing for superior UV transmittance. Lamps are “green”, containing ≤8mg of mercury (Hg) and they produce no ozone. Lamps shall retain, at minimum, 80% of initial output after 17,000 hours of use. They are sealed for moisture protection with a water-tight connection. Electrodes are designed to maximize plasma convection and stability for superior lamp performance. Lamps are rated to produce 11.7µW/cm² per linear inch of lamp arc length at 1m in airstreams of 400FPM velocities at temperatures of 45º F. INDEPENDENT TESTING: Units are tested in accordance with the general provisions of IES Lighting Handbook, 1981 Applications Volume, and provide output per 1" arc length of not less than 11.7µW/cm² at 1m in a 400FPM airstream of 45° F.

CC INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS *

1. The CC UV fixtures should be mounted on suitable support angle or channel and positioned across coil face as shown on the drawing.

a. If support channels are provided by American Air & Water, Inc., fixtures will be pre-assembled and pre-wired to support channels at factory.

b. If others furnish support members, mount utility fixtures to supports as shown on the drawing. 2. Install mounted fixture assemblies into AHU as follows:

a. Position fixture and rail assemblies as shown on the supplied arrangement drawing. b. For American Air & Water, Inc. supplied rails, drill 3/8” diameter holes into AHU wall in the

positions shown on the arrangement drawing. c. Use 5/16” hardware for securing mounting rails to wall.

3. Supply power to each row of fixtures as required - Supply power can be parallel wired through a DPDT safety switch mounted to maintenance access panels for safety reasons. 4. Optional UVC Sensor can be mounted by drilling a 9/16” diameter hole in the duct wall. A connecting cable can be provided in any specified length to run from the sensor(s) to the panel mount monitor. The panel mount monitor can be mounted in existing enclosure or can be provided with an enclosure as an option.

CC Installation Specifications The Coil Clean (CC) systems are designed for HVAC cooling coil disinfection to mount across the face of the coil singularly or in grid patterns to irradiate the entire surface of the coil. Typical installations require (1) CC36-2 fixture per 10 square feet of coil surface, mounted approximately 18” from the coil surface. On existing systems, CC fixtures should be mounted downstream of the cooling coil facing the coil. All CC models are moisture proof, with unique quartz sleeve/lamp combination and moisture proof power connection.

DC - DUCT CLEANERS SPECS

Tested and proven performers, DC consist of High Output ultraviolet lamps, ballast and accessory assembly, providing architects and engineers with a complete unit to meet all requirements. The units are manufactured in different series for commercial and industrial installations. The DC include 2- and 4-lamp, voltage specific systems for 120/277V, 60Hz or 220V, 50Hz. Individually or in combination with like units and/or High Output Coil Clean (CC), they adapt to HVAC systems. The units can be installed during or after construction by cutting a small hole in the duct wall for lamp insertion and fastening the transformer section to the exterior wall surface. The DC mounting surface features an airtight gasket. A simple support bracket is available for large plenum chambers. The High Output DC units play an important part in preventing the spread of indoor airborne infections. Tests reveal that disinfected indoor air can have a microbial count lower than that of outdoor air. DC units have been proven necessary in food plants, pharmaceutical production, hospitals, laboratories and government buildings.

NC (NEMA 4X) UV SYSTEMS The NC (NEMA 4X) high output germicidal UV Systems are mounted externally with only the lamp(s) inserted in the air handler or duct to disinfect the airstream. The NS systems include weather-resistant NEMA 4X housing that makes them ideal for outdoor HVAC units. Applications NC (NEMA 4X) fixtures are installed on the exterior of rooftop A/C units or ductwork and enable easy access to difficult to reach outdoor locations. They are available in one-lamp and two-lamp configurations and can be installed vertically or horizontally. Only the lamp(s) and input power wiring penetrate the HVAC unit, while ballast and lamp harness remain external (housed inside the NEMA 4X enclosure). PEK - PACKAGED EQUIPMENT KIT UV SYSTEMS

PEK High Output UV germicidal fixtures are designed specifically for fan coils, Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTAC), classroom unit ventilators, packaged split systems and other similar room unit systems. The PEK systems use practical and effective UVC technology to overcome the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) challenge other small in-room packaging equipment hasn’t been able to solve because they’re often equipped with low-efficiency filters that cannot effectively capture infectious contaminants or mold. In addition, because of space and airflow limitation, many of these other units cannot be retrofitted with high-efficiency filtration. Applications PEK fixtures feature lamps that illuminate cooling units with high-output (800mA) UVC energy that eliminates surface contaminants (mold, bacteria and other microbial biofilms) and reduce infectious airborne microbial contaminants, bringing improved IAQ to hotel/motel rooms, dormitories, offices, patient rooms, classrooms and other similar rooms. PEK Fixtures utilize high-output “green” lamps (≤ 8 mg of mercury; 2-year guarantee) with five-year ballasts (non-prorated 5-year warranty) into a convenient kit that delivers the best and longest-lasting UVC performance available. Independent tests show that the PEK fixtures deliver greater output than any other ultraviolet devices under HVAC operating conditions (45° F at 400 fpm air velocity), and the increased output of our lamps provide the most reliable germicidal performance and longest service life. Each PEK system contains one “green” UVC Lamp, one 5-year ballast, and all necessary hardware components to retrofit the room unit with UVC, including wire, holding clips, mounting screws and wire ties - the space-saving, snap-in design fits all major brands. The cell lamps come in lengths of 14, 16, 20, 24, 36, 48 and 60 inches to meet different size requirements. The correct quantity of kits and/or lamp lengths must be selected to irradiate the entire coil. Benefits:

SPECIFICATIONS: The PEK series lamp and power supply is factory assembled and tested in the USA prior to shipment. Each kit shall consist of a power supply, lamp cord and high-output lamp. BALLAST: The solid-state ballast (furnished with this kit) is a Class P rapid start with a power factor minimum of .95. It is available as a 120, 208, 230 or 277 VAC 50/60 Hz, single phase, and is designed to maximize photon production in air temperatures of 35-170° F. Minimum ballast start temperature is – 20 degrees F. Ballasts have a RFI - EMI rating as defined by FCC part 18A for industrial/commercial applications in regards to suppression. Ballast is UL listed for use in HVAC applications. LAMPS: PEK series lamps are high-output (800mA), T5 diameter, and constructed from hard glass tubing for superior UV transmittance. Lamps are “green,” containing ≤ 8mg of mercury and they produce no ozone. Lamps shall retain, at a minimum, 80% of initial output after 2 years (17,000 hours) of use. They are sealed for moisture protection with a water-tight connection. Electrodes are designed to maximize plasma convection and stability for superior lamp performance and life. Lamps are rated to produce 11.7 µW/cm² per linear inch of lamp arc length at a distance of one meter in a 45° F and 400 fpm airstream. KIT COMPONENTS: The wire shall be UV-resistant and rated for installation in an HVAC system. The spring mounting clips shall be provided with mounting screws and custom designed to hold the UVC Lamp without damaging the tube during installation or replacement. INDEPENDENT TESTING: Units are tested by an independent test laboratory in accordance with the general provisions of IES Lighting Handbook, 1981 Applications Volume, and provide output per inch of glass of not less than 11.7 µW/cm² at 1 meter in a 400 fpm airstream of 45° F.

SM SURFACE MOUNTED FIXTURES SPECS The dust-free design of the SM fixtures ensures a lifetime of dependability and contemporary appearance. The SM fixtures utilize specular aluminum reflectors for maximum UV efficiency. SM fixtures are available in one or two lamp models in various lengths.

Optional aluminum guardrails protect the UV lamp from breakage in congested areas. The guardrail fixtures have an overall height of 4⅝" and same length and width. The lamps may be replaced without disassembly of guardrail. The guardrails also could be made of stainless steel. The SM Fixtures are designed for hospitals, laboratories and clean room applications. TB, RAM & CM ULTRAVIOLET FIXTURES

The TB in-room fixtures control tuberculosis, as well as other airborne pathogens and mold.

Models TB-W are designed to be wall-mounted to reduce upper air contamination. TB-W fixtures feature adjustable louvers to allow unlimited direction of the ultraviolet rays while protecting personnel and providing maximum germicidal irradiation. The units are constructed of high grade stainless steel with an alzak aluminum reflector. They mount 7 feet above the floor and use SBL lamps. Re-

lamping requires only disconnecting the power and lowering the hinged front louver. TB-W fixtures are shipped assembled and include a grounded power cord, pull-chain switch, ultraviolet lamp and louver. Model RAM36-2 is a totally enclosed air-movement UV system. This fixture comes complete with filters, fans and 2 ultraviolet lamps. It is designed for rooms where congestion or ceiling height prohibits the use of wall-mounted indirect fixtures. CM15 CORNER MOUNTED FIXTURE

CM15 is designed to mount in room corners with two keyhole slots at 7 ft. This fixture incorporates a GML500 lamp and covers 75 - 100 square feet. The CM15 fixture comes complete with an eight-foot power cord and an on/off switch. The louver restricts and concentrates the ultraviolet rays above eye level so personnel can occupy the room while the fixture is on.

TB-W Systems Installation Instructions

TB-W systems are designed for wall mounted installation not less than 7' from the floor. Ceiling Height Fixture Mounting Height 8-9 ft. 7 ft. 10 ft. 7.5 ft. 11 ft. 8 ft. 12 ft. 8.5 ft. The TB units mount via the two key-hole slots in the rear of the unit. These holes require No. 8 anchored screws. The unit weights are respectively 25lb, 23lb and 21lb. Make sure the wall can hold this weight.

COLD CATHODE GERMICIDAL UV LAMPS

Cold Cathode Germicidal Lamps are instant-start lamps with a cylindrical cold cathode type of electrode. They are available in several sizes and may be operated either from single lamp transformers or in series trough the medium of high voltage transformers. The combination of Vycor glass tubing, used in most Cold Cathode types, and sturdy electrode construction make lamp life considerably longer than other types of lamps. Good ultraviolet maintenance is provided at lower temperatures and lamp life is unaffected by frequent starts. Although the amount of 2537 Angstrom energy emitted is the same for both high and low ozone lamps, the high ozone lamps use a special Vycor glass which transmits a controlled amount of radiation at 1849 Angstroms, which wavelength produces ozone. Ozone has deodorizing properties and is in itself a bactericidal and fungicidal agent. The Vycor glass Cold Cathode Ultraviolet Germicidal Lamp tube is the most economical type for the majority of general germicidal applications, because of its long life electrode and good glass maintenance.

HOT CATHODE GERMICIDAL UV LAMPS

The Hot Cathode Germicidal Lamps are similar in their operation to the standard fluorescent lamps. The Hot Cathode type operates from a ballast or transformer and requires a device such as the glow switch starter to preheat the electrodes in order to start the lamp. The electrodes, located at the ends of the lamp, are tungsten filaments coated with emission material and, under normal operation, govern the life of the lamp. In view of the fact that the life of the electrodes is shortened by frequent starts, the lamp life is rated according to the number of times the lamp is started, or the burning cycle. Operation at refrigerator temperatures may result in excessive bulb blackening and rapid depreciation in ultraviolet output. Starting of the Hot Cathode Lamp at low temperature is sometimes unreliable and may require special equipment.

SLIMLINE GERMICIDAL UV LAMPS The Slimline Ultraviolet Germicidal Lamp is an instant-start lamp, similar to the Slimline fluorescent lamp. The G10T5½, G36T6, G64T5 are available in low, high and very high ozone types. Their lamp life is governed by the electrode life and number of starts. The G36T6 Slimline type is so designed that it may be operated at currents ranging from 120 to 420 milliamperes, depending upon the type of ballast. Use of higher milliampere ballast increases the lamp ultraviolet output. Because of their high initial ultraviolet emission and good maintenance, Slimline Ultraviolet Germicidal Lamps are well adapted for applications such as air-cooling and heating systems, conveyor lines, water sterilization, and other applications which require high intensity. The Flex-A-Lite Fogger provides the operator with the widest range of options available for cold fog applications. The nozzle, attached to the flex hose, allows the user to easily direct the fog in, under and at objects. The convenient flow adjustment knob located at the nozzle enables the operator of the fogger to change the liquid flow rate being dispensed.

The operator can adjust the liquid flow to dispense materials at average droplet sizes under 20 microns (water based chemicals at room temperature). Droplets of this size remain suspended in air for extended period of time and are used primarily for insecticide applications to control flying insects.

Droplet size will increase as the liquid flow rate is increased and will average approximately 80 microns when the liquid flow is adjusted for maximum output. Larger droplets are dispersed by air flow and can settle on surfaces. DETERMINING ULTRAVIOLET INTENSITIES USING GERMICIDAL UV LAMPS

To determine the intensity of ultraviolet on a surface at various distances from a germicidal ultraviolet lamp multiply the radiant energy [shown in microwatts per square centimeter per second at one meter] by the intensity factor as shown in table below. The intensity factor table may be used for all germicidal lamps:

Example: The ultraviolet intensity produced by one 782L30 (GML010) germicidal lamp at room temperature is 73µW/cm² /sec @ 1m. The intensity factor at 24 inches is 2.33 as shown in table above. Multiply the rated intensity of the lamp 73 by the intensity factor for 24 inches - 2.33:

In like manner, the ultraviolet intensity produced by one G36T6L (GML005) germicidal ultraviolet lamp at 120 inches is: 120 x .115 = 13.8µW/cm² /sec at 120” The intensity factors listed were determined through testing using a click meter and a bare germicidal ultraviolet lamp with no reflector. If a parabolic, specular aluminum reflector is used in conjunction with the lamp, the intensity will be increased many times, depending upon the design and the efficiency of the reflector. The intensity factor table provides an easy method for quickly calculating ultraviolet intensities within ten percent accuracy. A UV radiometer for 254nm wavelength can be used for additional measurements. Lamp intensity and exposure time are the main considerations for the effectiveness of UV destruction or inactivation of microorganism. The formula below can be used to calculate exposure time. Intensity required depends on the type of lamp, the microorganism being eliminated and the distance from the lamp. Example: For 100% destruction of green mold spores (penicillium roqueforti) a UV dose of 26,400 microwatt/seconds per square centimeter is needed. A GML005 germicidal ultraviolet lamp has UV output of 120µW/cm² /sec @ 1 meter. With two lamps the intensity doubles to 240µW/cm² /sec @ 1m At 3” from surface the intensity factor is 22.8.. The calculation is: 240 x 22.8 = 5,472µW/cm² /sec @ 3" 26,400 / 5,472 = 4.82 seconds. Approximately 5 seconds are needed for two GML005 lamps at 3” to deliver a UV dose of 26,400 microwatts/ cm² and eradicate the green mold spores.

*The measured UV intensity at 253.7 nanometer units multiplied by these factors will give the intensity at other wavelength. There is a small amount of ultraviolet radiation generated below 200 nanometers, which produces ozone in the air, but the intensity depends upon the type of lamp. No figures are given for this radiation as the amount is very small and the atmosphere rapidly absorbs such energy.
