Weiber Commercial Application Dehumidifiers

You will find Weiber commercial Dehumidifier Systems on the

job where control of humidity and moisture is critical in various

commercial applications. Our unique Zexter-00908

technologically advanced dehumidification coil has the ability

to extract maximum amounts of moisture under difficult

conditions. With the addition of the optional remote

condenser, our commercial Dehumidifier will provide cool dry

air to the conditioned space. An automatic change over

thermostat allows the system to maintain the desired room

temperature whether summer or winter. The operation of the

commercial application dehumidifier is completely automatic.

A humidistat starts the dehumidifier upon a build-up of

humidity in the room and stops when the set point is reached.

Process Explanation:

Weiber commercial series dehumidifier removes moisture

from the air, thus lowering the humidity. It does this by

condensing water onto a cold surface. A fan is used to speed

up the process. It blows warm air onto cold metal coils, and the

resulting water drips into a water collector. The resulting cold

air is then passed over warm coils to bring it back to room

temperature. The air is then reheated and sends back to the

room.

Application

Dry Air Storage (Multi Purpose)

In dry air storage our dehumidifier keeps the relative humidity

at the desired level all year round regardless of the

temperature. Basic dry air storage only requires an un

insulated, reasonably airtight, building fitted with a

dehumidifier. Steel and other metals, wood, paper, pulverized

products, military equipment are just a few examples of items

possible that can be stored safely and at low cost.

Production Facilities (Pharmaceutical)

Weiber dehumidifiers make it possible to produce

pharmaceutical products all year round in a controlled dry

atmosphere. These dehumidifiers increase production

capacity in spray dryers and fluidized beds that are used, for

example, in the food industry. Breweries can avoid mould and

condensation on cold surfaces by using dehumidifiers

Archives

Archives for photographic film must be kept at low

temperature and at low relative humidity, typically + 2 ºC, 30%

RH. A controlled climate with stable relative humidity is also

vital to prevent art collections, old documents, textiles, books

etc from being damaged by the ravages of time.

Power Plants And Buildings

Being able to supply dry air inside industrial facilities and

buildings is an important capability. Power plant boilers,

piping, steam condensers, turbines and bridges are examples

of dry air corrosion protection methods. Buildings that have

suffered flooding or moisture damage can often be made fully

functional again after drying out with dry air.

Defence Equipments

Dehumidifying of ammunition storage and preserving

mothballed vehicles were some of the first applications in the

military field. Since then the number of applications has

multiplied several times over covering everything from

submarines to fighter aircraft. Small arms, tanks, vehicles,

radio- and radar installations, underground rock cavern

storage can all benefit from dehumidification techniques

Electronic Industry

For manufacture of certain electronic equipment extremely

clean, but also dry air is needed. For example we have

supplied desiccant dehumidifiers and temperature control for

products temporarily stored at 2 % RH 15 ºC, between

different stages in a production process.

Other Applications

Perhaps none of the above applications fit your specific

demand for drying or maintaining a controlled dry air

environment. We have experience over a range of

applications, everything from underground rock cavern

storage to the drying of mushrooms and ostrich eggs. The

solution to your moisture problem might be our Weiber

dehumidifier.

FAQ

What is humidity?

As most people already know, humidity is defined as the

amount of moisture in the air. Relative humidity is a way to

measure the amount of humidity present based on the

maximum amount of humidity the air can hold.

Basics of humidity

The amount of moisture that air can contain is roughly based

on its temperature. Cold air can hold, less moisture and warm

air can hold more. In the winter time your house is surrounded

by cold air that doesn't hold as much moisture, so the

conditions inside your home naturally try to match their

surroundings. This is why your house is typically dry in the

winter (unless of course you are using a humidifier to add

moisture). The warmer summer air can hold more moisture,

and therefore your house also tends to have much higher

humidity levels in the summer time.

How do you calculate relative humidity?

How does this help to determine relative humidity? Any

temperature of air has a maximum amount of moisture it can

hold. The relative humidity is expressed as a percentage of

the current moisture level relative to the maximum moisture

level for the current temperature. For example, when the

inside temperature of your house is 68° F then 1 cubic meter of

air can hold 18 grams of water (called saturation, or 100%

relative humidity). If the air contains 9 grams of water per

cubic meter, then the relative humidity is 50% (9 / 18 = 50%).

How Dehumidifiers Work

Many people understand what dehumidifiers do, but not many

people understand how dehumidifiers work, and more

importantly what factors will help or hinder the dehumidifier

you choose.

The Basics of Dehumidifier Operation

We've all witnessed water forming on the glass of a cold drink.

The same principle is used by dehumidifiers to extract

moisture from the air. When warm air is exposed to a cold

surface, water is pulled from the air and collects on the colder

surface. This is called condensation. A dehumidifier uses a

fan to pull air across a metal coil that is cooled by a

compressor . Once the water is extracted from the air and

collected on the cold coils, the air is re-heated and exhausted.

The water that was collected falls into a reservoir where it can

be drained.

How Air Movement Affects Dehumidifiers

Now that you understand the basics of dehumidifier

operation, you need to also understand what characteristics a

dehumidifier must have to work well. For starters, a

dehumidifier must have a fan of some sort that actively draws

air into the dehumidifier, across the cold coils, and back out

again once the moisture has been extracted. The amount of

air a dehumidifier can move is measured in CFM, or cubic feet

of air per minute. The more CFM a dehumidifier can move, the

better job it can do removing moisture from larger spaces.

Without an effective air mover, the dehumidifier would only

remove air from the space immediately surrounding the unit.

Smaller portable dehumidifiers move less air and are typically

best suited for single-room dehumidification. Large whole

house units are equipped with larger fans and can extract

moisture from much more air, and therefore much larger

spaces (like an entire basement or crawlspace).

How Relative Humidity Affects Dehumidifiers

Dehumidifiers have an easier time extracting moisture when it

is readily available in the air. Dehumidifiers can extract much

more moisture when they are running in a moist environment.

It is much more difficult for a dehumidifier to remove moisture

as you lower the relative humidity. So, if you are trying to bring

a moist area (relative humidity of 70% or more) down to a

normal level of 50%, many whole house dehumidifiers can

accomplish that task. If, however, you are trying to get your

relative humidity down to 20% you'll need a much more

powerful dehumidifier for that task.

Why Does CFM Matter?

What is CFM?

CFM stands for Cubic Feet per Minute, and is used to measure

how much air a fan or piece of equipment can move. For

dehumidifiers, CFM is important because moisture can only

be extracted from air that can be moved through the

dehumidifier. Simply put, if your dehumidifier cannot move

any air (CFM = 0), then it cannot extract any moisture.

How much CFM do I need?

The CFM needed is based the square footage and level of

humidity in the space you want to dehumidify. Technically

we're interested in the cubic footage (square footage x celing

height), which will determine how many cubic feet of air that

basements and crawlspaces.

70-80% frequent moisture spots on walls or floor.

we need to cycle through the dehumidifier. Determining the

level of humidity will indicate how many times the air should be

cycled through the dehumidifier every hour (know as ACH, or

Air Changes per Hour). The higher the relative humidity the

more often that the air needs to be cycled through the

dehumidifier.

If you have a hygrometer (an inexpensive device that can

measure the relative humidity), you should be able to test the

humidity levels in your basement or crawlspace. If you do not

have a hygrometer or any other way to get a fairly accurate

measurement of the relative humidity, you can typically come

up with a good estimate from the table below.

To calculate the minimum CFM that your dehumidifier should

have, take the cubic feet of your basement or crawlspace,

multiplied by the number of times per hour that air should be

changed (ACH), and then divided by 60 minutes. The

resultant number should give you the CFM that your

dehumidifier should have. Below is an example to calculate

CFM:

Commercial Dehumidifiers

Page 21: commercial-dehumidifiers

ACMAS TECHNOCRACY PVT. LTD.www.measuring-meters.com | www.acmasindia.com | www.scientificlaboratoryequipments.com

4. 65% relative humidity = 3 air cycles per hour

5. 1,000 ft² * 7 ft ceilings = 7,000 ft³

6. 7,000 ft³ * 3 ACH / 60 minutes = 350 CFM

The CFM calculation should serve as a guide for sizing your

dehumidifier. If you find that your suggested CFM is much

higher than any dehumidifier you can find, you can always

install more than one unit to increase the dehumidification. If

the dehumidifier you choose has a higher CFM rating that

what you need, then the dehumidifier will run less frequently to

achieve the desired relative humidity levels (in other words, it's

OK to get a larger dehumidifier than you need).

How much will my dehumidifier be able to lower the

humidity?

A) That will depend on a lot of things. Most importantly, the

temperature in your room will determine the minimum

humidity level you will be able to achieve. With most

dehumidifiers the air comes out at around 30% humidity. At 70

degrees and higher it is possible to reduce the humidity to

35% to 40%. As the temperature goes below 70 degrees and

down into the 50's this will rise to 60 %. If the humidity reached

is not as low as you want, you can heat the room or raise the

dehumidifier off the floor where it is coldest. Since heat rises

the air temperature will be higher as you elevate it towards the

ceiling. This will enable you to further lower the humidity. There

are other factors affecting how low you can bring the humidity

level, such as the size of the area you are dehumidifying,

construction of the room, and the area of the country where

you live.
