Mary Lestina believes that everyday holiness is offered every
moment by being aware of God’s presence and striving to do what He
asks of us. Mary loves people and her ministry at St. Dominic
Catholic Parish. One of her strengths is bringing people together
and connecting them to a fulfilling ministry.
REFLECTION
Welcome
Stained Glass Manifestations
We have very beautiful churches in our Archdiocese. The various
religious art pieces and sacramentals enrich our life of prayer,
such as the Stations of the Cross and the statues. As a child, I
remember staring at the beautiful stained glass windows in my
parish church. The sun shone beautifully through the colored glass
and brought the picture to life more vibrantly. Through the
centuries, the art of creating more detailed pictures of saints has
grown, and still today, they lift our eyes upward.
This weekend we celebrate two events in the church: the Feast of
All Saints and Vocation Awareness Week. Both lead us to sanctity.
When we were baptized, we were christened with the name our parents
gave us. At Confirmation we choose a saint whose life touches us in
some way and becomes our intercessor.
Saints are very important in our faith formation because they
inspire and encourage us, on our journey to holiness. I remember a
sister from my religious education class told us, “Saints are human
beings. They become a saint the moment they know they are loved by
God.” Wow, simple, profound, and yet a challenge.
Two years ago on the parish pilgrimage to France, Spain and
Portugal, we stood on the ground
where St. Dominic, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Ignatius of
Loyola lived. They once walked this earth and now are living
legacies and powerful witnesses to Christ’s love in their lives.
They are intercessors for us. Also among the “communion of saints”
are those loved ones in our lives who died and continue to
intercede on our behalf in heaven. This could be your grandparents,
parents, siblings, children or friends. Their faith lives on in
us.
We celebrate the call to serving the church during Vocation
Awareness Week. We rejoice for all vocations to ordained ministry:
priests and deacons, those called to the married state, and the lay
ministers dedicated to the work of serving the Church. We are all
called to holiness. We are grateful that God continues to call men
and women to ministry, where they give witness to God’s love
through their unique vocation. Each of us can be that “walking
saint” in our world, leading others to Christ through our words and
actions. We are strengthened when we walk together in that path for
holiness. It is not an easy task. Christ calls us to discipleship
where we can be a stained glass window, manifesting the love of God
that shines in and through our lives. My friends, it’s a blessing
to know you as living saints in the making.

Knight Pride
Three years ago, we began a campus ministry program at St.
Dominic Catholic School. Middle School students who were on fire
with their faith worked together with faculty advisors to plan ways
for students to engage in their shared beliefs student to student.
The students involved with campus ministry have done much to
provide Advent and Lenten activities for the school community,
prayer services to focus on our love of Jesus, and to lead by
example on how to live a virtuous life. This year, we are
implementing a leadership team to campus ministry. The leadership
is comprised of eighth grade students who applied to serve in this
capacity for their peers.
Congratulations to Mary Grace B, Ellana B, Kaitlyn K, Olivia K,
and Jack K. Way to go, Knights! We look forward to seeing where the
Holy Spirit takes you!

St. Charles Borromeo
Feasts Day: November 4 Born: 1538—Died: 1584
Patron: bishops, cardinals, seminarians, and spiritual
leaders
One of the most important figures of the Counter-Reformation in
Italy.
His uncle was Pope Pius IV. The pope depended upon him in
directing the third convocation of the Council of Trent (1562–63).
When the council closed, Borromeo served in executing its decrees
and was largely instrumental in bringing out the Roman catechism in
1566.
Borromeo’s heroic behavior during the plague of 1576–78 won him
much respect, and he gave away much of his wealth to feed the
hungry and care for the sick in Milan.

The Bookshelf
There are many online resources to help us grow in faith.
Sometimes it might be hard to choose which ones to check out. On
our website we have an area dedicated to exploring Catholicism. On
our menu bar, click EXPLORE and then Explore Catholicism. Hope you
find something new to feed your faith!
Do you love to read? Under EXPLORE, we also have the BOOKSHELF.
The Bookshelf contains recommended books and reviews from staff and
parishioners alike. Sort by category or by the author of the
review.
This week, our latest book recommendation is right on time for
All Saints Day!
My Life with the Saints by James Martin, SJ
“My Life with the Saints,” by James Martin, SJ is my favorite
book written by him so far. I have recommended to others and given
it as gfits.
In this book James Martin shares his personal connection to each
of the saints or Saints and his personal stories of his
relationship with them.
He gives you just enough information to want to learn more, way
more about each of these amazing people and what’s more, you want
to have the same type of relationships with the saints as he
does.
I also found myself needing to stop and write down books that he
was recommending to learn more about each saint.
I might go so far as to say, “My Life with the Saint’s: made me
fall in love with the saints. ~Meg Picciolo, Director of Marketing

National Vocation Awareness Week November 1-7, 2020 This annual
celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States is
dedicated
to promoting vocations to ordained ministry, married state, and
consecrated life
through prayer and education, and to renew our prayers and
support for those
who are considering one of these particular vocations.
FAMILY PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS:
Loving and Generous God,
it is You who call us by name and ask us to follow You.
Help us to grow in the Love and Service of our Church as we
experience it today.
Give us the energy and courage of Your Spirit to shape its
future
Grant us faith-filled leaders who will embrace Christ's Mission
of love and justice.
Bless the Parish of St. Dominic by raising up dedicated and
generous leaders
from our families and friends who will serve Your people as
Sisters,
Priests, Brothers, Deacons, Married Couples and Lay
Ministers.
Inspire us to know You better and open our hearts to hear Your
call.
We ask this through our Lord.
Read about Kaitlyn Trokan, who is an aspirant for the Salesians,
on the on
the reverse.
Feeling called? Please contact your parish priest, deacon or Fr.
John Burns who promotes
vocations to consecrated life at: [email protected]. It’s never too
early to discern your call.
A WEEK OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS

lives through their ministry and those who
continue to minister through their vocations.

in Second Year Theology.
November 2: Pray for Deacons, especially Deacon Larry,
Deacon Greg, Deacon Kurt and all deacons who have
served St. Dominic Catholic Parish, and for Jeff
Kucharski, who is currently in 2nd year formation.
November 3: Pray for Vocations to Consecrated Life,

yours, yours are the eyes with
which He looks with
compassion on this world.

Get to know Kaitlyn Trokan, currently a first year aspirant with
the Salesians.
1. When did you know God was calling you?
I had thoughts of religious life as an option starting in
childhood, but I was not interested. In October, I started
attending Cor Mariae, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee's women's
discernment group. Through these meetings, it
became clearer to me that God may be calling me to religious
life, and I needed to stop resisting it. The call became
clearer in January when I was on a Brew City Catholic young
adult retreat.
2. How did you know it was your vocation?
Right now, I am in my first year of formation with Salesians -
aspirancy. The purpose of aspirancy, and all four years
of formation, is to determine if it really is my vocation. Just
as a couple dates for a few years before engagement or
marriage to see if they are really called to that vocation with
that person, so it is with religious life. Right now, God as
invited me to be an aspirant, and only He knows what my future
is.
3. What attracted you to your order?
I met Salesians for the first time when I was a Fulbright
English teacher in Košice, Slovakia. I taught alongside
Salesian
brothers and sisters in my school. My host family and students
were involved in their youth center. They were the
first Sisters that showed me that they are also normal women.
Salesians are also the largest order of women
religious in the world at about 12,000 currently. I love the
international spirit and ties that flow through the
community.
4. What is your normal day like?
Each day is different. We have 7 classes plus about 15
hours of ministry a week. A typical day is wake up at
5:00 AM followed by morning prayer and Mass, drop-
off duty at the attached high school, breakfast, and a
class. Then we have lunch and another class or
ministry at the local elementary school. Starting at
5:00 PM is evening prayer then dinner, chores, and
recreation. I am typically in bed about 9:00 PM.
5. What is your community’s mission and how do you
see yourself changing the world?
Salesians focus on the evangelization of the young.
This happens through schools, summer camps, youth
centers, campus ministry, and retreat centers to name
a few. I have my degree in education and have always
wanted to work with young people. I see myself
changing the world by serving future generations,
especially those most in need.
Blessings, Kaitlin

Loving God isn’t merely a matter of fervor in
our hearts, but that it must be expressed in
doing good for the sake of others.
Thank you to everyone who made our Truck
Collection and Adult Coat Drive such a success.
We collected a total of 351 coats. These
donations will help continue our mission of
helping those in need.
In addition, we were able to help a couple with
two children, who both had health issues, by
preventing a utility shutoff while getting back
on their feet.
Beginning in November, our collections for
the St. Dominic St. Vincent de Paul Society will
move to a quarterly basis. Please use the
attached envelope to offer your financial
support and return your envelopes by
dropping them in the collection baskets at
Mass or sending your envelope to the Parish
Center.
